Unreal Tournament 3 CPU & High End GPU Analysis

The UT3 engine is superb, my 8600GTS runs it amazingly well at 1680x1050, and even decent at 1920x1200.

Still, i want a better card to run it flawlessly rather than amazingly well at 1920x1200 :)

Uh why? you cant have AA with the UE3 Engine.

Was reading an artical at tweakguides on UT3 optimisation and it said that ATI said that AA with be available with vista and dx10.1. However the quality settings already ingame apparently do something for it already.

Antialiasing Support: UT3 uses a technique called Deferred Lighting, which doesn't allow for the use of normal Anti-Aliasing, at least in DX9 mode. Epic has stated that when running in DX10 mode in Vista, the full version of the game will allow the use of AA. For the moment there are only two ways to force Anti-Aliasing in the game:"

So is it a better idea to go with the 2900xt rather than the 8800GTS 640mb?

If you like AA which tbh is needed at any res then the GTS 640 yea, but I would wait, week or 2 and the 8800GT will be released and there is gonna be a new 8800GTS 640 with 112SP's so dont get anything just yet.

Good article - I particularly liked the section on 1066 vs 1333 FSB because it shows in Unreal Engine 3 the gains of 1333fsb are so small it's probably not worth increasing the cpu temp and possibly stability by overclocking that high.

It seems at high res the GFX card is where it counts whilst under 1600x1200 the CPU boundary kicks in.

I game at 1680x1050 and will no doubt be getting a new GFX card before xmas from either maker depending on performance and price to replace my 8800GTS 320 :)

Yea, I am waiting indeed. Can't wait though! << lol. I hope they will really release it on the 29th...

I'm running 1920x1200 fine here though.

ah just read the link, It's not that it doesn't have widescreen resolutions, It's that the field of View(FOV) isn't calibrated correctly.

It was the same for FarCry and UT2004.
