well i was currently making this thread http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18366696

I started up the computer and it only goes for half a second. The blue LEDs come on in the PC, the fan slowly whirs for half a second then it dies again. I'm probably going to have to take most of it out again but i would be handy to know where i should look =)

actions so far:

taken out the graphics card
reseated the power cable from supply to motherboard, still nada

so update i didnt see the 12v 4 pin i had to plug in near the top left of the motherboard, it now starts for 1 second, still no noise however and then switches back off lol

the only thing i have plugged in atm is the power cable at the back, HDD and DVD drive

Is everything else plugged in? Did you check all the RAM and everything? If you've missed that I'd be worried you didn't miss something else. Power connectors will be roughly as follows:

1 x 24 pin Main Motherboard connector
1 x 4 pin CPU motherboard power
1 x sata power for each SATA device (optical drive, hard drive, SSD)
2 x PCIe power connectors for the graphics card (may only 1 if its low power, or none at all)

ive taken out all power the HDD and DVD drive so its only powering the motherboard and fans now. it restarts itself after a few seconds of off so im going to check the power on, reset pins

Hmm, check the cable to the power button. Did you mean you tried putting the reset button where the power button should go and it did the same?

Is the power button getting stuck or anything? I had this on one PC I built, where the power button would sort of get stuck and when it came back to normal, it would turn the PC off again. Just an idea.

i turned them round so negative was positive etc.

Ive fixed that problem is seems though. my new problem

graphics card is extremely loud when i start it up, ive locked to see if anything is blocking the fan but nothing.

Could there be a power supply issue as to the cause of the fan being loud?

ill take a picture of the power cable setup and maybe a soundf clip of the fan if i can

Okay. well, on my old graphics card when i turned the PC the GPU fan would run at 100% for a few seconds. Is it just that, or is it all the time its on?

If it's all working so far, I wouldn't worry too much just yet. A fan spinning too much is better than one not running at all :) As long as it's all plugged in it should be okay (might be worth taking it out and putting it back in?)

no it sounds like its running very slowly not fullspeed

Woah, you don't need to use all those adaptors!

There should be two 6 pin - 6 pin cables that'll go into the white connectors on the power supply, and straight into the graphics card.

the ones that are plugged in are the ones from the graphics card box, ive got 2 other cables which is a 6pin > 6 pin with 2 pins additon but i read im not supposed to use that as its got the full 6 pins but the ones i want to use have the middle top missing, ill get some pictures =)

Okay. Those adaptors are provided, but you've got a modern/decent PSU so don't need to use them trust me :)

The 6-6pin ones are fine (and yes one of them is probably 6-8 pin, just ignore the extra two they are for more powerful GPUS)
