Up and coming English talent

Ashley Young should have went to the World Cup with England but Crapello took the same usual under perfoming suspects!!

We need new blood and also players who play good for club team and national team too.

Out of interest, how many times have you actually seen Rodwell play? He certainly looks a prospect but he's hardly played enough for anybody to be certain that he'll walk into the England squad let alone side if he played more for Everton.

edit: And isn't the talk that his longterm position will be as a CB?

Kinda contradicting yourself there, you admit yourself he looks a prospect in his few games put that promise into starting games week in week out and you've got a player who's going to easily be better than Barry

You make a good point about not knowing what his position is though which is why he does need games because as things stand no one really knows what he'll end up being. Either way though I think if he gets games week in week out he'll walk into the England team - if it's in midfield it's because he's better than Barry, if it's in defence then it'll be because Rio is constantly crocked!

I take it you have never seen Young play for England. Worst player I've ever seen in an England shirt. Including Heskey.

Ashley Young had one good season, and, as Jakeke says, has been unbelievably bad for England when he played.

Surely a player good enough to walk into the England team shouldn't be kept out of his club side by Phil Neville, another Englishman? I'm not suggesting Neville is a better player, but if it's that cut and dried, surely a manager like Moyes should be able to see it?

How?

From the little i've seen it looks like he's got the potential to become a decent player, That's very different from saying that if he breaks into the Everton side, he'll become an automatic starter for England.

It's not quite as simple as that. The reason Moyes plays Neville so much is that he's a natural leader. We seem to play better with Neville on the field. On top of that Moyes seems to prefer playing Neville at RB where possible rather than in CM.

I think Rodwell will feature a lot more this season. The problem is that although he started off being used as a defensive midfielder he's shown that he can actually play pretty much anywhere and isn't afraid of scoring goals (like that awesome one against Man U last season). I'd love to see an Everton midfield of Pienar, Arteta, Rodwell, Fellaini, Bilyaletdinov :D

Just from the stand point of if he plays week in week out he'll be better than he is already which IMO is already better than Barry

It's only because the likes of Carrick aren't even considered to be starters for England which makes me think if Rodwell starts playing consistently he'll a sure thing for challenging Barry for that midfield spot

I'm an Ipswich fan and Connor Wickham is without doubt the worst player I've ever seen playing for Ipswich, can't control, can't shoot, injury prone and slow as moses ;)

I've heard him dubbed the new Francis Jeffers ;p

I've not said, nor do I think Rodwell is close to being as good as Barry yet though, so I wasn't contradicting myself.

The guy has played a handful of games and shown glimpses of promise, whether he can continue his development remains to be seen.

Surely Scott Parker must be above him in the pecking order as well? Only capped 3 times so has yet to be given a chance to establish himself.
