Up in SMOKE

Had a power issue when i switched on this morning, not so opened the case, when switched off, check if any loose connections, it appeared the power supply fan was not spinning. Cleaned it of dust, switched it on and a big puff of SMOKE and a nice little firework display. PSU dead, would this have blown all my other components?
 
Unfortunately no one can tell. You'd have to get a replacement PSU and try and boot the machine up.

If it's a decent PSU it 'should' have died on its own.

Depends largely on your psu, the higher quality it was, the less likely that it's killed anything else. If it was a 15 quid effort everything is probably dead. Good luck :)
 
If the PSU is a decent brand it will have hopefully done it's job and protected your components. But as said above - the only way you can tell for sure is by testing another PSU.
 
^ As stated above, I'd advise on going slightly overkill on any psu bought. imo it's the most important part and moneys not wasted in buying it slightly higher spec and quality.
 
I had one a blow a few weeks back, Was like a smoke machine & punched out 3 distinct puffs of smoke, I quickly stuck Saturday night fever on & grabbed my moby for a pic.
Put my old PSU back in & everything fired up as it was Before the swap. Shocking. :p (not sorry)
The only difference was the colour of my boxers. :D
 
Well it's a paper weight now so dry your tears cross your fingers toes & scrotum & install another Decent PSU all the while praying to baby jesus.
 
Personally I wouldn't buy a hyper. Heard to much bad news about them. 18 months to 2 years ago they were even classed as budget ones.

When you get your new psu go with a good one LOL
 
Heard a lot of horror stories about Hipers.

Best of luck mate I hope nothing else has been damaged.

They're not that popular these days. Nonetheless, I had one for ages and it was lovely; outlived an ocz elitexstream. Sold it a while ago, but would have no problems buying another hiper when I need a new psu
 
Kai - where in South Cymru are you?

If you are between Swansea and Bridgend I can drop by and lend you a PSU to test if you want :)
