Upcoming 890FX Motherboards - Due April 26th

Not a massive amount tbh. You already have USB3 and SATA 6gbps, though we'll have to wait until tomorrow to see if the new boards clocking ability differs a lot to the older models when using the X6.

If you do get the X6, make sure you've got your BIOS up to date and ready before putting it in.

yeh I got to install a beta bios before I rip out my cpu for you tommorrow lol...

It would be a hell of a lot cheaper to stick with atx and not go intel mini-itx.

I only need the AMD x6. I need to research them as I know nothing of them. I don't think I will buy a new mainboard as I ain't a massive overclocker as long as I can get a fairly good overclock on 790 I would be happy.

Would the AMD x6 run arma2 great in theory? Doesn't arma 2 love more cores? but hates hyper threading?

Thats the only game I can think of where I would see a difference.

I don't know, I don't play arma 2 at all. I'd say probably few games will really take advantage of 6 cores at the moment, but that should change in the future.

As above though, did you think about micro-atx rather than mini-itx?

Yeh looked at it but now seeing sense and am going to stick with what I have and just order a x6 tommorrow.

£160 -£170

Amd boards arent really value anymore
890FX is the high end chipset.

Asus M4A89GTD PRO AMD 890GX - 107.99 inc vat

Gigabyte GA-890GPA-UD3H AMD 890GX - 109.99 inc vat

About 4 or 5 years ago I paid around £140 for an Asus A8N-Sli Premum Nforce 4 motherboard.

And the intel rampage costs how much? :p

Asus Crosshair IV Formula

£169.99 inc

Asus Rampage III Extreme

£329.99 inc

An extra 94% :D

Obviously the AMD board is lush . . . very lush but IMHO it's absolutely not worth more than £130-£140 smackers! . . . . if people resisted the current asking price and wait for the "Fresh Lauch" hype to die down a bit then I expect the price would drop . . . I can see a few folks seeing £169.99 asking price as a "steal" though when compared to the uBerish LGA1366 boards but you have to compare against something from the affordable spectrum to get a better semblance of Bang-For-Buck reality . . . such as the

Asus M4A79XTD Evo

£89.99 inc

What does the ASUS Crosshair IV Formula offer for an extra 88% asking price over the Asus M4A79XTD Evo? . . . PCI-E 2.0 X16/x16 Crossfire vs PCI-E 2.0 X8/x8, few little extra Bells n Whistles? . . . . basically the EVO will get the job done in style and either allow you to keep money in your pocket or a bigger budget for a slick GPU/CPU? . . . it may not be a "Bling" as the IV Formula but I can't see the average punter could tell the difference in actual usage (extreme overclocking & GPU Benchmarkers aside)

Plenty of great AMD boards selling sub £100!

Nice post as usual Big.Wayne. I still think the Crosshair IV Formula represents great value for money, but it does depend on how much you value all those little extra features and presentation. I'm coming from Intel though, which is always more pricey as you pointed out, and so Asus ROG boards have never been accessible to me before.

Does anyone else feel the 890GX based boards, especially those from ASUS and ASROCK give much, much better value for money (overclocking included) than the FX based boards?
