Upcoming Intel’s Price Splash: 40% Price Cut to Core 2

yeah i'm startin to feel sorry for AMD. :(

amd made a stupid mistake again. they are moving forward to rival core duos in three months time when they should be thinking how to get ahead of intel with their next move. sadly intel beat them off again with price cuts. it gets me thinking if amd are run by a stupid bunch of morons.

Well even though us enthusiasts might not be satisfied, AMD is making money....and that's their goal. :( ... :) ?

Why? They were happily kicking Intel around until Conroe came out - now it's Intel's turn. AMD will have their time again. And so on, and so on. The competition is good - look how advanced Conroe was.....and all because Intel had to produce something to get back on top. Now AMD has to do the same. Good news for us :)

Christ, your post is so retarded I should refrain from qouting, but I cant.

Perhaps you should run AMD then if you feel they are managed by a bunch of morons. Im sure as a CEO or CTO you would over a few months figure out a new tech that would destroy the competition...

And I would post the same two years ago if you said Intel where run by a bunch of morons as they had nothing to match 939 from AMD, and kept releasing higher clocked old tech P4.

AMD isn't losing at all. Their market share is still increasing - much to Intel's annoyance. Market share is the only language businessmen speak - they don't give a toss if geeks aren't buying their product.

In 18 months time when the next gen AMD chips are ahead of Intel there will be another slightly ignorant poster saying the same thing about Intel.

18 months after that, someone else will be saying the same thing about AMD, again.

Because 18 months ago people were saying Intel were finished.

Gosh maybe these development cycles are, you know, cyclical ?

it just seems Intel have not just beat AMD this round, they're sticking the knife in after AMD trounced them for so long.

I for one will purchase the fastest chip i can get for the least amount of money, for i am a student, and i am sensible. :D

damn this confuses me even more.

i'll be going to hong kong for new year and coming back on the 10th of january and was planning to pick up a new cpu and motherboard. does anyone know if these new prices will be effective in the far east by then? dont wanna fork out so much money only to find it you can get it so much cheaper a couple of months later.

New conroes coming out just after tho ( taken from the inq )

2007 BRINGS a new Core 2 Duo Conroe based CPU. Intel decided to increase the FSB to 1333 and to reintroduce three new parts but in Q3 2007 only.

The slowest one called E6650 will have a 1333FSB and 4MB of cache. The CPU is based on the same old Conroe core and has two cores and works with two threads. The slowest one works at 2.33GHz. The second one caleed E6750 will work at 2.66GHz with the FBS 1333 while the fastest ends up at 3GHz with the same 1333 FSB. Motherboards with support for 1333 are already out there.

You can hold your breath as these CPUs are all scheduled for Q3 2007 and will probably match the launch time of the real FSB 1333 chipsets such as the high end one called X38 scheduled for the same time.

Just for comparison an E6600 is $310/£160 in the US, UK £200. Thats an extra 25%. After the cuts that puts one at £145. Or a Q6600 at £340.
i dont like it when that happens :(

aren't those us price cuts? what about uk prices in pounds?

they usually take longer to kick in, expect to see it filter through about 4 weeks after US prices drop.

I'd say this blows AMD's new X2 models out of the water!

yup, as soon as the larger PC producers stopped accepting Intel's illegal subsidies on condition of no interaction with AMD products and started agreeing to ship AMD products to avoid court action AMD`s market share was bound to open up. And they still have a very viable server market too.

they also have the prestige of teaming up with IBM to build the worlds fastest supercomputer called "roadrunner" using sixteen thousand opteron chips, it will be up to 8 times faster than the current world record holder that is Blue Gene L
