Upcoming Intel’s Price Splash: 40% Price Cut to Core 2

yup, as soon as the larger PC producers stopped accepting Intel's illegal subsidies on condition of no interaction with AMD products and started agreeing to ship AMD products to avoid court action AMD`s market share was bound to open up. And they still have a very viable server market too.

they also have the prestige of teaming up with IBM to build the worlds fastest supercomputer called "roadrunner" using sixteen thousand opteron chips, it will be up to 8 times faster than the current world record holder that is Blue Gene L

and where can we buy "roadrunner"'s from? :D

but anyhoo, w00t on the pricage cuts, will defo be getting a E6600 or better once im a lil more experienced with OC'ing on a E6300, which i will hopefully get running on thursday when i get my 24pin extension lead

Hmm tis the thing was planning on just a new beefy PC for Vista in Jan/Feb with ATI R600 even.... this changes things... but also means more waiting!

AMD isn't losing at all. Their market share is still increasing - much to Intel's annoyance. Market share is the only language businessmen speak - they don't give a toss if geeks aren't buying their product.

Absolutely right.

And in the server market, AMD are absolutely mullering Intel. MArket share is rocketing. This is a very big, lucritive market.

Don't forget that Intel is about 20 times bigger in terms of turnover. Which is publicly available data. The real proof of who is doing better is profit which can be more difficult to find out.

Remember, turnover for show, profit for dough :D

Oh, forgot to say that the 4300 should also be a bargain with its 9x multi and massive OC headroom.

AMD need to make this switch to 65nm as this is the reason that Intel can cut prices. the bottom line is that they will get more products out of each wafer.

Even with price cuts their variable income increases but their fixed outgoing theoretically stay the same.

If AMD move to 65nm and can keep their SOI tech and StrainedK techniques it should give them a very competitive product, even based on hammer architecture. AMD's fabbing at 90nm is more advanced than Intels. Lets hope these "tricks" transfer to 65nm

It's oh so British to root for the underdog and I would hate the massive leap forward in Intels desktop market and better product (in almost every way) to seriously hit AMD as competition is good for us. Without AMD Intel would have no need to make these price cuts.

Lets hope that the R600 is a winner and can help fill AMD's coffers to help fund future R&D, which is where the money needs to be spent!

Thats certainly interesting, the higher multi will make clocking on even cheapo boards pretty impressive, provided they can handle a decent FSB.

The mobo will only need to be able to do 333 in order to hit 3GHz. Most boards do that now and even with the rubbish chip which come from the slowest speed bin should hit 3 GHz as they are already and the mufacturing process will only get more mature.

If you can find a budget mobo that will do 333, some cheap 667 ram and a 4300 will provide an awesome cheap office computer. Stick in an 8600 or whatever the budget gpu of the time is and you'll have a very reasonable gaming machine too.

Overclockers have never been able to save so much money :D

Oooooo! When i build my system i think a nice 6320 or 6420 will be a corker! :D

Will have to read up tho as to which will be clocking better. You never know but the 6320 could be poor clockers when they come out!
