Update on my UNI situation

I have decided to go through UCAS Extra and clearing, if I need it.

Which UNI is good for Business Studies/Law? Somewhere in London, I want to move out, but I dont want to be on the other side of England.

Thinking of applying to the following-

Brunel
Queens Mary
Warwick
Durham

Also is it normal to apply to a UNI you have never seen before? The only open day I have been to is at Queen Mary's.

What courses are also interesting? I dont know what job or career I want to chase so I picked Business/Law as a neutral option.

Although Durham is a good 250 miles away, if you book far enough in advance (2-3 months) you can get £10 singles from Kings X. Train only takes 3-4 hours aswell IIRC.

It's a very good uni in a wonderful city, although I'm not sure but I think that maybe business is taught on a campus about 30 mins away from the main one. The colleges are also a big plus point! Can't comment on the others, but Warwick and Durham are the two that definately standout, Warwick being the better at most subjects I imagine.

< Starting compsci at St. Aidans college this year, can't wait!
 
I hope you understand that to Warwick and Durham are unlikely to have clearing spots for Law. These two are top 10 universities and for Law they usually have over 1000 applicants for like 300 places all needing AAA plus a LNAT score. The same also applies to Queen Mary which is also reputable for law within the city.


edit: In fact looking at your A levels and your results so far Arts Media and Law, you really should be realistic with what your applying for. Durham and Warwick may like many top 10 uni's look slightly down on Media studies.

You will need to massively increase your grades to have a chance to get in to Durham or Warwick. They may not like the subjects you've chosen either.
 
tbh I wouldn't have thought you'd have much luck with Warwick and Durham. Queen Mary's is part of Uni of London so will be fairly well respected, so I'd try with that one if I was you :)
 
There are plenty of Good universities, generally the pre - 1992 ones are the more reputable.

You need to however be realistic, You state you want a good uni, near London.

Off the top of my head there are: Surrey, Kent, Royal Holloway and Queen Mary, Sussex(well its in the South) Reading, UEA, Essex.

All these are pre 1992 and respected , but are also more likely although you never know to go into clearing than say Warwick or Durham. However you have left it late to really pick and choose.

And that is for Law/Business. Also is it normal to go to a uni without ever being there before?

I havent seen much UNI's apart from Queen Mary.

I went to King's through clearing on a whim. Manchester still wanted me, but I decided moving up north wasn't for me. :o

Like I said, take a look at City University for your subjects. :)

You'll need 3 A's for anything involving law.
 
Warwick is a lovely place... I got into Computer Science here via clearing with BBBbc, when the requirements were AAB so worth a shot :)

Best bet is to start calling the Unis up after the A-Level results come out and ask them... with mine the lady on the phone told me yes within 15 seconds and then proceeded to take my UCAS details so she could check my grades etc...
 
durham is an excellent uni but its business course is of a lesser reputation and its grade requirments are quite generous -

you need to think about what you want to do afterwards - if you are going to want to get into top grad schemes then you should just get into the best uni possible really.

it might be possible to get in somewhere and change course - prob not for law, business more likely.

you stand little chance of getting into warwick period - similar with ucl, lse, oxbridge...

maybe try york for business management - they had clearing places last year i believe, you could get into that course with 220 points last year!
