I've just had this appear on my screen:

Does anyone know what this does? What's it actually updating?

If I cancel it now, will I get offered it again?

I had that appear a couple of times yesterday, I canceled it but it kept coming back. Haven't been able to find any announcements from Apple or O2 about what it's for.

I've just installed the update, I'd imagine the update will probably help address O2's recent issues with their data network failures.

It popped up on my new macbook pro yesterday so I just assumed it was new SMS/MMS/Cell settings with regards to their recent network balls up. I installed it on my JB'd 3G and noticed nothing different until I sent out an MMS last night and it failed. That has never happened before...

Yep installed it this morning - Have been using my phone all day and have seen no change - However, I was unable to use the net for about 2 hours - I then realised my net settings were different... wierd =\

It resets your APN to idata so if you're prepaid you'll need to reset it to payandgo instead.

Usually cellular settings like this apply to the settings and originate from changes to the operator's network rather than the OS (that's pure apple). It just seems that they send out the same settings message to all the phones rather than differentiating between prepaid and postpaid.
Also these operator settings are usually sent over the air using a SMS.. this is via apple which makes me think it's a minor change to the properties list in the settings hence the loss of state and the fact it's done via iTunes rather than SMS.

I installed and had to reset my phone settings afterwards as lost all service, later that day.

After the reset then has worked fine since. I wasn't impressed.
