Whatever were Apple thinking? :eek:

Apple's updated the Mac Pro with Intel's new 45nm quad-core Penryn Xeon CPUs at up to 3.2GHz. The new 8-core config is $2,800, and Apple's Phil Schiller is calling these machines the "fastest Mac we've ever made"...

Oh, and Xserve too. :p

Apple just updated their Xserve boxes. Starting at $2,999, Apple's calling their new Xserve the "most powerful apple server ever." The speed comes via two (max) quad-core 3.0 GHz Intel Xeon 5400 series processors. That's 8-cores pumping away inside a 1U rack server....

Well, I was going to post that the Apple Store was down, but las time I did that nothing had changed, so I didn't. :)

That is a bit of a shock to announce a week before MacWorld.

I'm hoping they are saving the announcement of shiny new or upgraded MBP's for the 15th.

Indeed, I should have numbered the arrows, but as I can't be bothered now:

I myself would be tempted by one if my sister actually knew if she was going to be in her job long enough for me to go in with her and do the archives. :o
 
interesting this news - weird that they didn't wait a week. Choice between this or a new imac! If the prices stay the same I'll just settle for an imac!
 
If they update the cinema displays at MacWorld then I'm sold.

The mrs can go to Butlins for the honeymoon :p

Spoken like a true mac fan haha, made me laugh.

I am seriously considering a new Mac Pro, but as other people have said, if they upgrade the cinema displays around Mac World then that will seal the deal for me!

Case could do with a redesign, although it does still look very nice.
 
tbh that was just the update i was waiting for - confirms that i shall now be returning to windows and building myself a quad core beast. I almost fell out of my chair when i saw the prices of the new MP.

Oh and 2600XT - you spoil us apple you really do
 
yeah it sure is expensive - i think i maybe could afford it if i dropped down to just the quad core option. Its still seriously overpriced considering an imac would do my job nicely
