Updates for Mac Pro!

I guess it comes down to how much you want to use Mac OS as your main OS. I'd personally get the Mac Pro in that situation, now that you can get a 8800GT.

The other semi good news is that if they aren't wrapping this into macworld keynote then it suggests they'll be spending time on other things (or I'm just being optimistic)

Oh I do love mine...but If I was minted and had 1000's in the bank doing nothing I'd upgrade :o

God damn Steven J.

I always wanted the Mac Pro, but went for the iMac because of the lack of updates (plus I dont need one at home.. One in the studio) but this new spec is appealling enough that I want to sell the iMac and buy :(

Sadly, I can't at the moment.. What with planning a wedding and honeymoon! I had the money to blow just before Christmas; its just my luck. I envy anyone who buys one of these.. Oh, and Im glad they kept that enclosure.. Its perfect.

Perhaps I'll save some cash and pull the trigger next MacWorld / WWDC

Cheers all, she had no choice..

I must admit I showed her the Mac Pro a few weeks ago and said: "If I hadn't bought your ring I would have bought this :D" She did laugh it off so I guess I can't take it back for a refund! Joke!

Anyway, I'd have;

a 500GB drive for OS X (both disc's in RAID 0)
a 500GB drive for OS X
a 500GB drive for storage (both disc's in RAID 5)
a 500GB drive for storage

.. 4 physical drives, however, configured to look like 2 drives within OS X

I'd hate that to happen, glad it hopefully won't. I'm looking forward to seeing what they're coming up with in these ultraportables, the mac pro update has been rather nice too, pity I'm too poor.

I'm thinking 320GB OS X, 500GB Time Machine, 500GB general storage, with 4GB RAM upgrade from OcUK and a 20/23" ACD.

Yum.

Doh... didnt spot that and thats a bugger as ive ordered mine with 2gb thinking i could just swap the 4gb out of my current Macpro... :(

it might still work, just at lower speeds.

I'm also interested to know whether the single chip macs come with 2 chip slots on the motherboard, so i can drop another in there in a year or two when i might need to or when prices come down.

Can't wait for people to get them to report back!!

Yes, I was thinking of going single chip, then dropping another processor in at a later date also!!!!

Now need to find a reasonable supplier of DDR2 800 FB-Dimms, unless OCUK will be getting some in shortly?

Would it be worth getting an ADC membership to get the discount on the Mac Pro?
