when a new driver released:

1. do you unistall previous one and install new one?

2. just install over it? (this is what i do)

3. unistall the old one and use DriverCleaner, then intall new one?

which is best?

I've always installed nVidia drivers straight over the old ones, but with ATi cards I uninstall the cats and cp before installing new drivers. If the card works as expected, then you're fine. If not, you can always uninstall and use DC.

i'm lazy and just install over the existing drivers. have done this for my previous 6600gt, my current 8800gts and current ati mobility x1400.

although i have to get powerstrip to remake the custom 1366x768 res everytime i update the catalysts (grr!)

Naturally 3 is best, followed by 1 and 2. Often there won't be any issues with installing over the old ones, but now and again things can go very pear-shaped so it's best practice to do a clean install each time.

I do number 3. :)

Add/Remove to remove old drivers then boot into safe-mode, run DriverCleaner Pro then reboot normally, cancel the found new hardware wizards and install latest drivers.

i got a problem with DriverCleaner, when i choose a driver to be cleaned e.g. ATI it shows a list of files that been deleted, then when i run it again all the files are there and it says its cleaned then run it again and its the same and again and again and ......... i dont think its really deleting anything.

whats this all about?

Those files that keep coming back are the system 32 files that cant be deleted and will recreate themselves, they come with xp as standard and are protected files that have nothing to do with you cards drivers, all other files installed with your drivers should be cleared out.
