upgrade advice...

My opinion, for what it's worth:

1) DEFINITELY do it yourself. SATA etc isn't that different and the motherboard's instructions are usually easy to follow. 40 "wangs" is the difference between an 1800 and 1900 X...XT!
2) Get the 6300 and overclock.
3) Get the Gigabyte DS3 mobo and get an easy 400 FSB.
4) Get the Geil 2Gb kit for compatibility with the above.
5) Cooler - Arctic Freezer 7 Pro. Not worth the extra for the Zalman especially when it's actually slightly louder that the freezer.

There is a good reason that many people are ordering / using the above combo.

They both work together, there is a big thread in the motherboards forum on compatible combinations and the Ram is fine. I think that if you used a motherboard with the 975 chipset you might have slightly better results for overclocking a 6600 but this is the real world and money rears its ugly head sometimes so I'd say go for it, it should make for a great system :)

cheers semi, youve by and far been the biggest help and i cant thank you enough

just to clarify, is that cpu cooler and power supply ok?

im sure the cpu cooler is the right choice form what ive seen on here, but what about the power supply?

is that got enough to it?

No worries, the PSU is a good choice, 500w is ample for the system you want and Seasonic are a great brand and quiet.

The CPU cooler will be fine but like Robbie G says the Freezer 7 may be a bit quieter and it is cheaper. Either would do the job so go with whichever you want.

hey folks

me again

just spotted this in the bundle section here

Intel Core 2 DUO LGA775 E6600 2.40GHz Retail / Intel 965P LT Motherboard / 2GB Corsair XMS2-6400C5 DDR2 Dual Channel Kit - Bundle (BU-004-OK)

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Intel_LGA775_Bundles.html

seems like a good deal to me, plus im thinking i pro0b wont overclock anyway, so, is this a good alternative to my purchase??

cheers in advance

The motherboard should be fine, the 975 chipset is supposed to be better matched with the 6600 chips for overclocking but for running at stock there won't be any problems especially as it is a bundle it will be guaranteed to work.

cheers man, as i said before im not really too keen on overlocking, but should i go for a 3rd party heatsink anyway? if the mood takes me?
