Hi so I feel like I want a bit of an upgrade to my system but unsure on what my money is best spent on...

I currently have:

5600x
16gb 3200 Vengeance RAM
3070 GPU
Corsair 750w PSU
M.2 SSD for storage.

I play on a 1440p monitor.

Main games I play are Tarkov and DayZ with some COD and FIFA chucked in. Like the odd AAA single player game from time to time as well.

My thinking was potentially going for a 5800x3D and another 16gb of RAM? Don't have a big budget so don't feel like I can really go for a full refresh in terms of a new gen motherboard, CPU and DDR5 for example, I may be wrong though?

Any advice appreciated,

Cheers.

What is your bidget? (regardless of how much it is).

People than can decide what would be the best bet as 2nd hand parts could be an option but would depend if you are ok buying 2nd hand or not.

Currently, the extra ram would be a good idea and so does the 5800x3D otherwise its a jump to AM5

Thanks guys. I am not really struggling for FPS but I lower the settings quite a bit so would be nice to be able to graphically make my game look better and future proof a bit with a better processor.

Budget wise is around the £300 mark.

Consider the 5700X3D or 5800X3D.

I would imagine that if the 3070 is struggling at 1440p, than dropping to 1080p and adding the CPU/RAM option would net great results.

The other way is to upgrade the GPU to remain at 1440p. Within that budget you would have to go s/h or sell the 3070 for around £300 and put this towards a RX6900XT for around £450 - £500

You may want to check if that is an upgrade for the games you play.

The CPU/RAM will extend that system for at least 2 years ceteris paribus. GPU at 1440p not sure about as it is already 3 years old but should give you a similar amount lifespan

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £379.98 (includes delivery: £0.00)
IMO it's worth pushing the budget a bit, sell your old kit to make up the difference.
£465 get you b650 Tuf gaming wifi, 7600 cpu and 32gb ddr5 6000 ram...which will give you same performance...so close call to getting on new platform for the longevity. Tough call seeing as you're forking out close to £400 to stay on an old platform and you've exhausted your upgrade path

First consideration would be the GPU at 1440P.

AMD have some great GPUs for 1440P gaming, as NoughtBoy said.

You’d see a big performance uplift going to a 6800XT and 5700X3D but which would blow your budget, even if you sold your current GPU and CPU but it’s up to you.

There’s a good argument to go AM5 for the long run as has been pointed out so GPU would be the best upgrade path until either AM5 is cheaper or you find one secondhand for cheap.

Thank you for all the responses everyone!

A lot to think about there.

I was thinking what if I sold my 3070, Ram and 5600x and replaced them with a 6800xt, 32 gb of 3600 RAM and a second hand 5800x3D. Do you think budget wise I wouldn't be far out then? £300-£350.

3600 RAM would cost around £80
5800x3D is around £200/£225 s/h or £290 new (whichever you go for, make certain you have updated BIOS in your MB to make certain it supports the 5800x3D)
Your 5600x and RAM would probably pay for the s/h 5800x3D

Selling your 3070 will probably net you £300 leaving around £220 after the 3600 RAM. If you add your full £300 budget, you might get lucky and squeeze in a 6950XT for around £520 or go for the 6900XT I suggested for £100 less

Thanks for your help Noughtboy. Is there an Nvidia equivalent to the 6900xt? I have no preference really but looking up the 6900xt, there seems to be big issues with drivers for DayZ which is a game I play a lot.

No chance, Will need to add £70 to that.
My bad. I meant the 32GB 3600 RAM kit. Apologies for the school boy error. Well spotted @mickyflinn

So to recalculate correctly, 3600 RAM at £80 is paid for by the 5600x and your 3200 RAM

Sell the 3070 for about £300 and get the 5800x3D leaving you £80.

I have just checked the available cards on a well known auction site and the prices for sales in December are much lower than the current prices so you will have to go for a 6800XT at £360 -£400which should generally give you +/-30% FPS gain

3080.

Back again! I've had a bit of a lucky win the last couple days and have decided to put it straight back in to a passion of mine which is PC Gaming.

Having figured out my current setup is probably going to fetch me £700-1000 possibly if I sell it I have a new budget of £2500. Don't need windows or a monitor etc.

Do your best guys!

Cheers.
