Ok guys another check before I buy thread.
My previous rig blew up about a month ago.

Motherboard failure on a Abit AN8 Fatality, so stuck now on a backup 3GHz Pentium 4 at the moment.
Now that I have some time to build a new rig, just have some questions if you can kindly help me out.

I am left with a case, Antec P160 which I am very happy with.
Graphics card 8600GT, again happy with.
Power supply Enermax 485W noisetaker, would like to keep but not sure if it is up to it now?
So basically require new motherboard, cpu and ram, and fancy a dabble with a SSD :)
I have no idea to be honest which ram I should be getting, but nice high performance, with price consideration also.
Also would love to get a high overclock on the cpu as others have achieved, 4GHz+ ?

Does this look all compatible hardware?
Thanks in advance!

Just realised I can get a Retail Cpu of the same, that comes with its own cooler.
For around the same price!
Is the cooler supplied very quiet?

i have always found intel coolers are not too bad noise wise for about the first 12-18months, then they get louder. but they wont allow much scope for overclocking. they also come with longer warrenties i believe so its still better to go retail even if you are using an aftermarket cooler.

looks ok, dont see any ram though . being a B3 revision mobo no hardware issues that im aware of there, so it should be good to go :) again, dont no too much about bequiet but they do look like some chunky coolers.

Yeah just hoping for the new setup to be a bit quieter than last.
Bit fed up with the constant drone :)
The ram.. do I go for cheap or expensive?
Doesn't seem to be a lot in it.

depends what the system is for as to whether you go for a lot of cheap ram, or less ram but slightly quicker.
if you want to OC then aim for the highest speed you can afford as it will mean the clock ratio is more flexible. i think.
i have 2x4GB ddr3 1333MHz in mine and i doubt if i added 2x4GB 1866MHz ram i would notice any difference in speed, i would just maybe be able to overclock a bit more.

Ok decided on the ram,
G.Skill RipJawsX 2x2GB. Just because their blue like the mobo. :p
The only question I have now is, will the power supply run this lot lol

Ok revised:

Look ok?

Will 485W power supply be enough?

For this build im sure it will be fine overclocking might be pushing it a bit

myself I would get a 750w so at least u can upgrade graphics card with out the worry of not enough power also u will find the effiency of the newer power supplies much better

go for silver or gold rated supplies
