Currently running an Asus P5N32 E-SLI with Intel e6850 (775 socket) CPU.

I'm moving onto Windows 7 in a few weeks but wonder if i should not throw a Quad core processor in there? Or maybe treat myself to a i7 ?

With my current board, what is available out there? I did a previous check a few days ago, but i think i'm outta luck getting a quad core to suit my mobo, or am i wrong?

Thanks in advance

EDIT: just read from the Asus site it's Compatible with Intel® 06/05B/05A processors

I would take the chance to get away from that motherboard... they don't handle quads that great. I've had a pretty high failure rate with the P5N32-E SLI and striker extreme version - so much that I took a hammer to the last one so I wouldn't be tempted to use it again.

Oh dear ...??
So far i've had no problems with this board, do you think it was because of it's release during the early part of the quad era that perhaps it's proved unstable?

Are you overclocking? mine were all fine until I tried overclocking - then even a fairly mild OC (1066->1333 FSB) seemed enough to set them off.

They are getting on a bit but the nForce chipsets have never handled 65nm quad cores too well - lots of FSB holes and mostly pre-date 45nm quad support so its a bit unpredictable with the latest quads.

I think the problem tho was the NB mounting - on all of mine they didn't seem to make good contact with the PCB - slight pressure on the heatsink would be enough to hard lock the computer.

I used to have one of those and it seemed to fall over at the first sight of an overclock so I replaced it with an nForce 680i which isn't that much better. :p

Ditch it and go for an i5 or i7. I'll be doing the same shortly. :)

Hmm sounds like an i& is on the cards then...

Thanks for the advice guys, was looking for a cheap interim alternative but i guess a few more bucks means a better system.

I'd stick with that dual a little longer. 3Ghz stock speed right? Wait a little longer for the i3s and i5s to get more established (and for AMD to bring out a rival?) and then go from there. Your current CPU aint too bad...

Otherwise go i5/i7...

BIN IT (The Mobo)

I too have a p5n32 and a FSB of 300 is OK, 301+ however will leave you feeling =:confused::(:o

It wouldn't run my q9550 and even if it did it would have to be underclocked as it has a FSB of 333 MHz and if only 300 works then it'd be running at(300x8.5=2550MHz)

Never had a better chance/excuse to upgrade. :D

yeah upgrade and give me your cpu and then sell your mobo with my 4300 in it.... you know it makes sense m8 ;) (will even swap em over for you and make a cuppa fella)

So i'm not the only one to have murdered an Nforce MB :)
