Hi!

Major components of my PC include: SLI GTX 680's, 12GB Corsair Vengeance (Had to take one stick out due to it causing BSOD's), and an i7 3770k OC'd at 4.5GHZ. I just came back to gaming after about 2-3 years of leaving my PC kinda dormant, and realized it's not what it used to be as the new games are coming out. I was thinking of, within the next month, upgrading my GPU and throwing in some new/more RAM, but was wondering if my i7 3770k @4.5 is still good enough. Will it bottleneck a GPU upgrade to say a 1080?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hi,

Well, your CPU at this OC is ok.
Your RAM is ok too.
Buy something like Radeon RX 580 8GB, GTX 1080, Radeon RX Vega 56 or Radeon RX Vega 64.

Gpu upgrade 1070/1080 depending on funds, sure there will be a few fps loss due to older genertaion cpu but not worth upgrading.

I have the funds for even a 1080 TI. I may have the funds for an upgraded CPU as well but I'd just rather not gut my PC

The best time to upgrade will be around March-April next year.
For now, buy whichever graphics card you feel will suit you best, and then (if, in March-April) your new upgraded PC will go with it.

Thank you :) 1080 is it

One of the cheapest cards as well as being 3rd party PCB
One of the nicest cards ever
And quiet card perfect for VR due to internal HDMI if you can mount front HDMI reader to 5.3" CD bay

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £2,239.06
(includes shipping: £11.10)

I have a few friends that have the card and they absolutely love it- can't wait. If you had to take a guess, do you think the GPU is what's holding my PC back from performing on the newer games? I've been so far away from the scene for years because of school and have no idea what is obsolete anymore :(

Would keep the i7 3rd gen for another year and grab the 1080.
Intel's next gen will either have a big IPC increase over yours or at least double the cores and thread so you know it's double the worth of yours .
