Hi all,

So I broke my CPU ( broke and bent pins) , but when I purchased the same one I cannot get the PC to work. I think I messed up the motherboard as well .

So I was thinking that I need to upgrade a few bits ..

Here is what I have:

Ryzen 5 2600x. - definitely broken
Msi 1660 6 GB
X470 motherboard. - most probably broken
Evga 750 G3 80 plus gold
Corsair vengeance lpx ddr4 2x 8gb

I think I would like to keep the Ram as it's gone very expensive, and keep the PSU maybe as well? I only play in 1080p so don't need anything really major

So looking for CPU, GPU and motherboard potentially?

Any budget ideas?

Thanks Luke

No I sent that back. I thought I might as well upgrade while I can..
Budget maybe a few hundred? Nothing is set in stone, I just don't want to be spending money to not see any return?

Would like it to last a few years... I built this pc maybe 10/11 years ago and it has done good for me...

Thanks

Define a few hundred? £200? £500? A lot of PC components right now are extremely expensive, especially if going new.

If your motherboard still works it would be as easy as dropping in a new CPU and maybe replacing the GPU if you're looking for gaming uplift. If you sourced a second hand 2600 there's the chance it was DoA, but whether or not you want to try your luck again with another CPU is up to you.

It's a rough time to look for an upgrade/replace parts.

Thanks, the CPU was from CEX so should have been tested?
Some of the pins are off the old CPU, so was thinking that the got stuck on the motherboard or something but I don't know....

I thought budget maybe 500?

Any chance you could take a picture of the CPU socket for us? We might be able to see if there's anything left behind in it or damaged. I'd be surprised if the replacement would fit in the socket if there were any pins left behind. CeX should have checked things over but they can be hit and miss, and there's always a chance it died/was damaged somehow after whatever testing they did.

For roughly £500 you should be able to get something decent regardless, but it'll mean reusing your DDR4 which limits you platform wise a little if you want to include a GPU.

I have had a look but can't see anything... When I put the new to me CPU in ,it starts up but nothing on either of the 2 monitors.
Also, the power switch use to light up blue but now there is no light...

Hi,
It's 3200MHz
(3200 is fine) I've just seen someone list 32gb of 3200c22 crucial ram up for £35 on a mktplace..only nbeen listed an hour..might still be there. That's very cheap..personally if buying I'd tell him there's ram shortage and offer a bit more
only saying as quite a few games use more than 16gb of ram now(if playing new titles)..you can get by with 16, but it can start causing stuttering when playing..other option in use yours and try for another 2x8 to make it 32 intotal, but populating all 4 ram slots can put more strain on the memory controller, so 2x16 is prefereable

if you have a £500 limit, I'd be looking at a 2nd hand 7800xt 16gb card..raster performance is excellent for 1080p and 1440p gaming, just don't turn on ray tracing(it just cant do it)...I'd rather have that card with 16gb of vram than a 2nd hand nvidia card with 8gb of vram...if you can stretch for more then the new 9060xt 16gb cards (£360 cheapest i see on ocuk)..raster slightly slower than a 7800xt, but can do a little ray tracing and has fsr4...but we'rte running out of budget anyway, esp if you think your mobo is dead

then seen a ryzen 7 5800x listed for £60 (again seems cheap) in wales, and get a 2nd hand b550 board (a few for £80 listed). if you want new board the msi b550 gaming x for £89.99 seems decent(non wifi)..wifi I'd go with the tuf gaming b550 plus wifi II for £120

It looks like 2 holes on the mobo are missing/damaged?
This is where the pins were snapped off on the CPU?

It does look like there's something going on with the socket in those areas.

@Vince What does that look like to you? Sorry for the tag! :p I'm not sure if that's something that could be feasibly fixed in some way assuming it is a problem.
