Upgrade/New Build Advice

extra £25 would go the gigabyte UD Z390 or ditch the palit 2 year warranty

As long as not upgrading that 8600K no real need to go with better board, so in that case would focus on better warranty 2060 with any loose change, yes.

For example:

Zotac RTX 2060 Gaming Twin Fan with 5 year warranty - £330

Looking at close to £850 though with a semi-decent cooler to OC that chip to 5.0GHz. But you do get the added performance with the 2060.

Thanks, Danny. I thought that the vega 56 > 2060 by quite a stretch? Hard to keep track of all the stuff I've read!

But there's the matter of a cooler as well, don't have to go overboard but one that will guarantee good temps at 5.0GHz if the chip can do it.

5ghz still runs hot with 8600k which is a shame.

depends on what game and was resolution . vega 56 does have grunt at 1080p

you also get 3 free games, think rtx 2060 its 2

It depends on the game. Watch this vid and make your choice:

Forward to 9:43 for the 2060 v Vega 56 chart.

Interesting, only thing is that was for 1440p, dont know what difference it makes being that I play on 1080p.

The current iteration of the build (it's been through many at this point) based on Danny's feedback:

CPU: Intel - Core i5-8600K 3.6 GHz 6-Core Processor
CPU Cooler: be quiet! - Dark Rock 4 CPU Cooler
Motherboard: Gigabyte - Z390 GAMING X ATX LGA1151 Motherboard
Memory: Kingston - Predator 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 Memory
Video Card: Sapphire - Radeon RX VEGA 56 8 GB PULSE Video Card
Power Supply: EVGA - SuperNOVA G3 550 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply

Further thoughts are, is the PSU any good? I wanted a modular/semi mod one and this one seemed decent.

Alternative is the above but with a 2060....

Sweet. Last question for now, is overclocking the 8600k and Vega 56 relatively straightforward? Been several years since I did anything on yhst front!

There are a lot of good videos on overclocking and also undervolting the Vega 56.

corsair has rep on here and good warranty. Unit is swapped for new and is UK RMA .

z390 board, should be able to just enable M.C.E ( multi core enhancement ) and will auto overclock all cores to max single core boost - little more voltage then manual but must use it if starting out

amd drivers now have auto undervolt feature. havent used it myself though in AMD WATTMan

Excellent stuff! Purchasing today/tomorrow. The only thing I wasnt sure about is the mobo, couldn't find any reviews about it anywhere, is it new? Is it definitely the best one in that range?

z390 gigabyte , yeah for price range they pack enough vrm to shame flagship models ! uk rma on the board as well and dual bios as a just in case.

UD model is the cheapest but if you can afford extra £15 then go for the Gaming X/SLi. better sound, cooling and look better to!

another site is doing Z390 UD with free 120GB SSD as well as the SLi version but board isnt' worth the extra £15 unless you like your sound quality
