It's a bit confusing but i think i get it.

If you can make good use of having two machines i.e. have one for encoding and fileserver etc then its a good investment. However if you like to have just one machine to use for everything taking less space up then buy a new rig dual core and sell your current bits.

yea thats what i was thinking. there is nothing worse than encoding and then wanting to do something else and having NO CPU to do it. so a 2nd pc would be useful. but if i bought a dual core rig. what would i use to make use of both cores?

laptop for browsing/people's email etc...rig for gaming. makes sense;)

This is ideal, I would love that however I havnt got the spare £600+. But yes a lappy to browse etc whilst waiting for in-game events..

well i am going for an upgrade this time arround. but will save the money i make this year and get a laptop in december with some christmas money too :D

that Connect3D ATI Radeon X1800 XT 256MB is at a great price.

upgrade sounds good, but a dual core CPU would seem to help you with what you want to do. :D
