Upgrade path help!?

@snips86x @Quartz so any further ideas on how to get the speeds working or whether its just the motherboard thats restrictive if its old tech or something? not sure tbh?

and @snips86x in regards to tose OC settings you recommended where the heck do i find those things in the menu I assume you were using the classic menu?

Think it's motherboard restrictive.

The M.2 slot is only capable of 10 Gb/s. It needs to be 32 Gb/s to get full speed out of the 970 EVO.

In general use, you will probably not even notice the difference in speed anyway.

thought so thanks so much freddie!

in regards to the overclock @snips86x apologies for being an idiot i believe I found a few of the things you mentioned in the OC but the VTT and the other things im still lost with if you have the actual name of them in the BIOS or where they are located or a guide to it linked somewhere lol?

oh...um...I can't recall where they are, but they'll be under the CPU or power management section from memory.
I tried assist my bro when he upgraded, couldn't find a damn thing with these new BIOS'.

@snips86x these the settings you meant? all the ones I changed are below, and its mainly the vcore/vcore offset thingy I wasn't sure on so wanted to double check with you before enabling them? and I assume I just adjust the multiplier to 47 to get the 4.7ghz on it, and I think I need to re-enable turbo as most the OC guides ive looked at around the internet say to leave that enabled? I believe all the other stuff is correct though anything you believe I've missed?

Yeah, that looks right. I didn't touch the c states though, left them all on default. If the CPU doesn't like the settings, just reduce the clock by 100mhz and see how it behaves. If it's stable, after the down clock, increase the offset slightly and put the +100mhz back on.

so I did it with the 4.7 and as soon as I ran prime95 to stress it just restarts with windows error, so I went back in and knocked it down to 4.6 and it seems to let prime95 run for 30 mins without issue? is there anything I should do to get it to run at 4.7 upping the 0.020? or is that already quite high?

so that was after literally 1 minute of prime95 with that 4.6 ghz settings actually so ive reverted them all back to stock as I had a bit of a panic on with that teperature.

idle temp in speedfan before running prime were 40-45, although now I have reverted to all stock settings idle without doing anything n the 4 cores are between 28-22... is there somewhere I can go for a guide on oclocking? or is this just me being really bad at tweaking settings lol.

I wouldn't use prime mate, if the rig is for gaming just play and see how it goes. Putting unnessesary strain on the CPU isn't a great test.

Without actually looking at it, it's hard to really tell what needs to be tweaked to be honest. Might be worth checking on forums of the board manufacturer and see if anyone has managed to get a decent overclock going.

Well @snips86x I finally got it working for me lol a few youtube videos later, my vcore set to 1.265v I can hit 4.7ghz with a 100% load temp of 77 on the hottest core and 66 in the lowest hot core, and idle of 31, to get to 4.8ghz its not really worth it as I have to hit 1.324v vcore which makes 90 highest temp and 68 lowest temp so I imagine 4.7 will still be a bigger improvement over stock right? :)

found a guys video online that helped took like 50 minutes of watching but finally understood a little bit of this horrid board so until upgrade time YEY! lol
