Hi all.

Has anyone got a guide on how to upgrade my current setup to SSD?
I basically want to use the SSD as a boot drive for Windows 7 and keep games, videos and pictures etc on my current 1TB mechanical drive.

I'm not sure about either migrating the data, or if it's possible to back up my current setup to an external hard drive. Install the SSD and do a fresh install of Win7 and then use the back up from the external hard drive..?

I'm a bit confused.....

if your original windows/data will fit onto an ssd then you can clone it across to the new ssd

if not you can do a clean install on the ssd and backup/delete what you don't need on the 1tb and use it for storage/films ect

Thanks Wazza.

Do you have a link to a good guide I could follow?

The ssd is120GB and my current hard drive has 600gb of data on it.

Is it a case of backing up my pics, games and videos on an external hard drive, deleting it from my current HD and then use Macrium Reflect?

if it whittles it down to less than 120gb then yeah, but tbh its far easier to do a clean install of windows on the ssd

then backup what you need off the 1tb later and wipe it/use it for storage drive

you will have to re install your games back onto the formatted 1tb,same for programs that you don't want to install to the ssd

I don't suppose you have a guide on that method wazza?

I'm OK with reinstalling Windows, but I not entirely confident on restoring part, having not done it before.

the way I do it is,i have three drives

one ssd for my os,one 2tb storage hdd and a spare hdd to backup my 2tb

you can clone the 1tb to spare hdd then wipe the 1tb and re install whats needed,games/programs back onto the 1tb
