just ordered a i2500k with p8p67 board, do i need a new power supply if im wanting to reuse the power supply i have at the moment connected to my asus p2b?

cant remember the exact make/model of the pc at the moment though, i think its a 500w psu, was quite a fancy one at the time.

well i'm hoping simply that there are no new power connector types introduced that the motherboard needs going from core2 boards to sandy bridge motherboards.

You will need 8-pin or 4+4 pin power, and a 20+4 pin power. Can also work with a single 4 pin power connector, and a 20+4 pin connector, but generally not recommended and depends if motherboard allows it.

am in the process of upgrading but:

coolermaster black widow
e4300 @ 2.7ghz --> 2500k @ whatever i can get it to!
asus p5b --> asus p8p67
geforce 880gts --> ???
2gb corsair ram --> 4gb of something
120gb vertex 2e ssd
dell 2407wfp
logitech g5/microsoft reclusa
..sparkle psu :)

the reason for the sparkle is that its meant to be silent/quiet, the whole rig was meant to be silence and o/c'ing somehow.

You'll need a new PSU for sure.

These aren't what I'd call 'quality' units. Manufactured by FSP IIRC, but hopelessly inadequate for your upgrade I'm afraid. BTW, what a strange name for a PSU manufacturer.

So, the Antec 620W, or the XFX Pro Core 550W (should power a 6950 equivalent), or a 650W XFX / Corsair, that'll do the trick. These PSUs are as quiet as they are efficient (sorts of go hand in hand).

how does the "OCZ StealthXStream 2 600W Power Supply [OCZ600SXS2]" that is currently on offer this week compare to the antec/xfx (for noise/performance)

I wouldnt be able to compare the OCZ600w against antec or xfx, but i can give you my expercience on using 2 OCZ600w PSUs.

I have built a couple of systems using OCZ600w PSUs both still going strong LOL No major issues with them, only downside is that they are not modular, so you will have to complete some cable management. But on the plus side IMO good PSUs

System 1 powers a GTX295 with a i5 750 @ 3.8Ghz
System 2 powers a GTX275 with a E8400 @ 3.6Ghz

I know its not a direct comparison, but hope the information helps
