Hi there, just wondering how many of you are doing any seriouse upgrades for Crysis, im not going to be doing anything seriouse myself, i just need a graphic card upgrade really as im not going for any ultra settings :P

Also while im here, im not on top of all the hardware around and prices, and im just wondering what graphics card i could go for, im only wanting to spent ~£100 really, first or second hand.

Current system:

AMD athlon 3800+ x2
2gb ram, not sure what ram
x1300 series graphics card (hence the need to upgrade)
not sure what motherbord

Anyway i need something that will go well with this system so i will get o.k. frame rates in crysis, on any setting really :P

Thanks guys.

Sam.

This was taken from a recent interview with Cevat Yerli at Crysis:

- The game physics in Crysis will be handled by the CPU only so there will be no GPU or PhysX PPU aided physics acceleration.
- What comes to digital distribution Crysis will not be available on services such as Steam but on EA Link (EA Store).
- Crysis is highly optimized for both single-core and multi-core CPUs.
- The benefit from having multi-core CPUs will only be better performance i.e. higher and smoother frame rates.
- Cevat believes that GeForce 8800 GTS or Radeon 2900 will be good for running Crysis at 1280 resolutions on maximum settings but for 1600x1200 or higher you'll need faster hardware.

Good for me since my max res is 1280x1024 :D

a 7600GT will play crysis..
How come everyones obsessed with crysis needing the BEST hardware all of a sudden, if you dont currently have that hardware the chances are you are used to not playing on HIGH graphics, so you're best waiting and seeing..

People are obsessed about it because it will need the best hardware to run it at its best. Meaning highest resolution, max settings when they update it for next gen hardware etc.

Also, people have waited that long for it they want to play it well when it finally arrives :D

I'll be getting a Q6600 G0 in preparation, but thats about it, think the rest of my rig should be fine :)

My x1900xt plays Bioshock at 1440x900 with full detail nicely. Surely Crysis wont be much more demanding will it?

Almost certainly will be, Bioshock isn't that demanding, I've definitely got more demanding games in my collection! I suspect most of it is down to the relatively low-quality textures used in Bioshock - they make good use of them but they're not all that :)

id bet that most of those games are poorly optimized ports though. Crysis being developed just for PC should be pretty good.

but 99% of said people probably dont play games on highest resolution or max settings, theres still a massive amount of us using 1280x1024 monitors..

tis all a bit silly to be honest.
Iv got a 8800GTS and a e4300 and 2gb of ram, its a powerful rig and im sure crysis will look great whatever graphics i can play it on, theres no need to go out and buy a quad-core and a GTX or whatever just for a couple of games..
Real life looks better than crysis, that money could be used to render it in beer goggles too!!

I think most I'll end up doing is going for an 8800 of some flavour - 640gts or gtx sometime early next year as I don't think my x1900xt 256mb will run it too well at my native 1600*1200 resolution!

I completely agree that it is silly just to upgrade for one game. I have the exact same specs as you and i will be running it at 1280x1024. The only reason i have a 8800GTS is cause my 6600GT crapped out. I was going to wait and see if the 8800GTS would be worth it, but i can see that it will last for a good while.

Its not just 1 game though, the majority of the years pc games are coming out from now up to christmas, i.e Crysis, Medal of honor Airborune, COD4, WIC, Stranglehold, Hellgate London e.t.c.

Im in the middle of doing a full upgrade to Q6600/8800GTX/4gb Ram, with Crysis in mind, but not just for crysis. Also my current spec was due for an upgrade to last the next 2 years... If a gamer is gonna upgrade then nows the time to do it, IMO.

I was thinking about it, but I'll probably wait till the next-gen cards come out and the current-gen cards (hopefully) come down in price. I'd like DX10 but I want to squeeze a bit more out of my PC before I do another system upgrade.
