Hi guys.

I currently have a Crucial M4 128GB as my main storage, I have since nearly filled this so im looking to buy a second M4 and put them into RAID.

Since looking around for the best price drive i could buy, i have since seen a deal on OCUK, for a new SSD called the Crucial V4 256gb for just under £100.

How does this fair up again two of the M4's in RAID please? Is they a performance hit?

Would i be best to sell my current drive and buy an already bigger drive, the Crucial V4? In regards to buying a second M4?

Kindest Regards

M4s in RAID0 will beat the V4 by a country mile (on paper at least). Personally I don’t like RAID0; as far as I’m concerned it’s just too fragile for anything except scratch drives.

I’d keep things simple and just buy a buy a bigger SSD. The price on the V4 looks good, but the much faster Samsung 830 is only about £30 more (after cashback).

So would you advise i sell the crucial m4 that i have and possibly push towards one samsung 256gb 830?

Are they a stable drive? My crucial has been perfect since i bought it.

I swapped my two Crucial M4 128GB RAID1 drives for a single 830 256GB drive for convenience. In day to day use I don't notice any performance difference.

If all you need the new drive for is extra capacity (and you have the available sata ports), I'd keep your M4 for your OS and add one of those £99 V4 drives for storage.
