Yeah that's running too hot for stock.

You may want to reseat the cooler, do you have some spare thermal paste?

I have run intelburn test and each core maxes at 85 deg, the package at 98 deg. I have no thermal paste but I think Ihave toget a better cooler.
burn test said it was all stable.

Can you download Realtemp and get true idle/load core temps.

temps at idle 48deg. CPU fan speeds up briefly but not for long. I'm thinking a cooler chip would be better.

realtemp is similar to cpuid. with realtemp load tester max temp for any core is 78 deg for 1sec then drops to 72-74.

Run prime95 for say 30minutes while Realtemp is also open, it will show the max/min and current core values.

the temps go into the 90's, leaving the side off for now. ordered the gelid cooler - it will fit somehow. I got the wife to remeasure and she reckons I have about 16cm. so it should fit. Any tips on fitting? How do I get the old cooler off?

Ook another question if I may? I have a 90mm case fan at the back but there is provision for a bigger fan but the holes seem toi be 110mm apart - is that a 120mm fan?

I got a coolermaster tx3 hyper evo in the end, it comes with the intel push pull attachment sop no need for a back plate. idling around 35 deg now - 74 under load( that stays at 68-74 using intel burntest). Very impressed by cooler and very quiet too.
