Upgrading to SSD

I'm looking at upgrading to an SSD - all this talk about Crucials has just about convinced me - but have a question about upgrading rather than clean build.

I have a Windows 7 RTM machine which I'd rather not re-install from scratch. I know I could install the SSD, create a mirror from the current System drive, remove the current System drive and then break the mirror but...

... would that that ensure that the various SSD specific settings such as defrag are correct for the SSD or would the need setting manually - and if so is there a comprehensive guide for Windows 7 and SSDs out there yet?

Any thoughts or ideas?

thx

check this article out: http://www.tomshardware.com/news/windows-solid-state-drives-ssd,7717.html it's a good, brief guide. It appears that Windows 7 deactivates things automatically, since it detects the SSD hardware. Though I see wat you mean about mirroring it then breaking; are you concerned WIndows 7 might se the remaining mirror part as a normal HDD drive still?

Also, I'm sure I've read aound on this forum about people's optimisations for Vista/Windows 7 and SSDs. Happy searching!
