I need to buy a new graphics card but i have a few questions before i do.

My current system is:

1680x1050
Q6600 @ 3.2
8800GTX
4GB RAM
OCZ GXS 1010W

I'm leaning towards the 560Ti but i was wondering would there be any issues upgrading with my current system as its getting a bit old now and i don't want any bottleneck problems or any other issues.

Also would the 560Ti be the best option, for less then £200, as i was considering some ATI cards but you hear some bad things about them when it comes to running certain games, so i'm not sure if i should stick with nvidia or change to ati.

Finally is the brand of the graphics card important or should i just go for the cheapest one?

Thanks for any help.

If budget is the main deciding factor for you then go with your wallet.

Have you tried pushing your cpu overclock a little further?

If you fancy trying something different then why not, variety can be very refreshing. Quite recently I went from AMD / ATi to nVidia, and I think jumping team was part of the upgrade enjoyment for me. Something completely new.

I have had both and like different things about each. I consider nVidia generally better at performance (smoother, better minimums and averages) and in particular maintaining a good frame rate when AA is applied. Other technologies that they have dabbled in do little to interest me personally.

AMD, on the other hand, provide better bang for buck, have a much lower power draw, are better for audio and some say AMD cards have a better image quality. It's certainly very nice in my experience.

Some games run better on either brand, but invariably it doesn't mean that if one game runs well on one that it won't on the other. It's not usually that black and white, rarely anyway.

In either case, whatever you choose I'm sure will give you good performance.

I own a Q6600 running at around 3.4GHz, and have recently upgraded the graphics to a GTX 560Ti, running at 1920x1080- very happy with the result.

However, my main system has 2 6950 cards, and I'm also very happy with that too (running at 2560x1600).

I've had hardly any issues running with the latest ATI drivers, maybe some games might run at a few frames less, but not by much for sure. So, to be honest, there isn't really much to choose between AMD & Nvidia (except cost - AMD are cheaper).

At 1680x1050, a 560Ti seems to be a pretty good pairing with your CPU, but if you can find one cheap, an AMD 6950 is a good buy too.

You can also get the Radeon 6950 1Gb for about £170ish which are typically a bit quicker then the 560Ti but if you can pick up the 560Ti for less then its really down to the toss of a coin as to what to buy.
