Now I'm currently using a AMD Phenom II x4.

The reason I'm upgrading is because my stupid motherboard wont let me overclock manually, using the MSI 870A-G54.

Now I also have xfire 6950's,

I want to upgrade my motherboard too and think I might use this opportunity to switch over to Intel.

Now just wondering is anyone has any suggestions as to what to get or as what to do in this situation.

My AMD is OC to 4.2 using CCC but I've been told that it's not worth using it.

Anyway, Thanks in advance.

You're upgrading because:

1) your stupid motherboard wont let you overclock manually

2) your processor is OC to 4.2 using CCC but you've been told that it's not worth using it

The above are no reason to upgrade.

If the CCC will let you safely overclock to 4.2GHz then:

1) it doesn't matter if you can overclock manually

2) the CCC must be worth using on this occassion

If you want to upgrade because your 4.2GHz processor isn't cutting the mustard then fair enough, but the reasons you've actually given don't really make sense.

There doesn't feel like any difference between 3.2 and 4.2 using ccc. I still get the same FPS on bf3 at max :S

But and just thinking about upgrading too because I'm going to uni next year and wont be able to do must with pc in regards to upgrading once i'm there. so kinda future proofing it too.

Yea, with a good quad core BF3 should run well - in your case it will almost always the GPU bottlenecking performance in that game (and tbh most games). That's not to say that the HD 6950 card you have is slow - just a comment on how games in general are limited by the GPU so long as you have a decent CPU (which you already have, especially when overclocked).

If you don't have one already, you may want to consider getting an SSD. It won't increase framerates in games, but it will greatly increase level loading times - which in games like BF3 makes a big difference to your overall enjoyment IMHO. Also, if you install your OS and main applications on the SSD then everything will load up mightily quick and generally "feel" faster.

Thanks. yeah So far I have put my OS on one HDD and other apps. And my games onto a separate HDD, it deferentially improved loading times. Might get a SSD :D
