Upping the power of an alternator? Chav related question inside

I have to wind up the volume in my car to pretty unconfortable levels in order for it to be a nuisance outside the car, I've tested this with the aid of the remote for my old head unit, lol

Disabling smartcharge would be an idea.

Getting it rewound doesnt really help.

You need something like an Ohio Gen ;)

What I dont get is the amount of people with a huge system in their car, but at home they just have a cruddy aiwa mini system. I've got a reasonable setup in my car, but the setup at home is much, much better - that's the better acoustic environment and it's where I spend most of my time

I tend to listen to much more music when I'm in the car tbh. Always got music on when driving.

I don't even have a sound system at home lol.

Some people dont have a room large enough for great hifi. Some people have kids, parents, old people, pets that mean they cant listen at any volume dynamic.

Plus a really well done car install sounds better than a home one.

All decent car sound systems have more than one batter, an leisure battery is better than a car one, but don't get it from halfwits, the are £30 more expensive than a normal motor factors

Because they still live with their mum, and if that Aiwa system ever gets turned above 1.5 they get yelled at.

Heh.

No. Just no.

If I want to listen to music at a decent volume and someone else is in the house who will get annoyed, I put on my headphones, I don't go and sit in my car.

Well thats your decision. Im sure most if not all of the EMMA UK competitors will disagree. But they, they are all wrong, because the ocuk motors clique says so.

How can I back it up ? use your ears.

You've clearly never even been within a mile of a properly set up home audio system. Yes, car audio can sound good, but saying it sounds better than any home audio system makes you, yet again, sound like a collosal tool

Setting up a good car audio system is certainly an interesting challenge, it's a lot harder to do than a home audio system, but the home audio system has the automatic advantage because you'll be putting it in a nice simple square room with plenty of room for decent speakers and amps, and an ample amount of power available.

Of course if you spent £50,000 on decent well thought out kit to put in your Ford Escort and £200 on an Aiwa mini system for the home, the car audio system will be superior but assuming equal amounts of thought, planning, research, effort and spending go into both, the home audio system will win almost every time.

I say almost because I know someone will come along and post that they live in a 60s concrete nuclear bunker, or a hole in the ground (or more likely, a basement) and the acoustics are terrible.

Completely agree, it is an interesting challenge - even just setting up a fairly basic system is much more difficult than setting up most home audio systems.

The notion that car audio will be better than home audio is laughable though - given any budget, the home setup will always sound better for the same amount

My home system (the stereo portion anyway) only cost about £650-700 new which is nothing in real hifi terms but it IS real hifi, and it sounds lovely, if I do say so myself. I would be curious as to what is involved to make a car system sound so smooth, balanced and separated properly within a car environment!

Car audio 'competitions' are normally about making as much noise as possible. Which isn't hard. But quantity != quality.
