Hi all, thanks for looking and your help will be much appreciated.

My computer stopped working and I used Easy Recovery Pro to get my files out.

The problem was, I managed to get my wife's data out and mine too but my wifes user account was not password protected but mine was.

I got all the data, but now I can only view my wifes files and not mine, the data is there but I can view them, what can I do to retrieve them back to normal?

Please help as I got a lot of invoices and customer data saved with a lot of jpegs and I need to access them urgently.

Please help.

Have you tried taking the hard drive out and getting a USB enclosure for it. Just plug this into a different computer and you will be able to use it like a flash drive, just copy and paste everything you need out of it.

I have done it, but when you access it that way, you can't go into my data as my user account was password protected, I had to use Easy Recovery Pro to get the files, now that I have it, I can no longer access it, even though the files are there but not accessible.

what OS do you have?

if its XP, boot in safe mode (this gives you the security tab) and take ownership of the files,

if it says get lost after you take owhership, make sure the permissions are OK... once you have ownership of NTFS files you can change permissoins ever if you have no access to the files...

I'm assuming you know how to take ownerships etc...

dont panic, if its jsut permissions there is no way you have lost any files...

possibly if you put the whole users folder back onto another working system same OS and then restart and try and login with that user name and password. It may let you access the files you want. JUst a thought
