So my new pc build is finally complete. Everything works (fans, AIO, motherboard lights, etc). CPU, RAM, and SSDs all detected on screen.

I get error d7, which I believe is due to no keyboard/mouse detected.

I add a keyboard using a usb-c to usb-A cable, and then get error 99.

Have tried resetting CMOS several times, and even updating the BIOS (download file from ASUS, inserting it into the bios usb, press and hold bios button), which was successful.

Reconnected keyboard and error 99 again!

Reset CMOS, and back to d7.

Really deflated and stuck...

Motherboard is Asus Hero 870e.

Have you tried different USB ports?

Have you tried without a keyboard and mouse connected to see what happens?

Do you have any front USB ports connected to the motherboard headers you could try?

Does your keyboard have a USB dongle you can connect and use rather than a cable?

what board, ram and CPU?

however
"Error code 99 on an ASUS motherboard typically indicates a Super IO initialization failure. This often points to issues with devices connected to the motherboard, such as hard drives or other peripherals, not being recognized or properly initializing. "

Thanks all. I've managed to get A9 and into BIOS, windows recognised and installed now, phew!

However, the motherboard cycles between codes from 38-42, and sometimes 50-somethings.

All appears to be working fine, though.

Those error codes are bothering me as I don't want any issues down the line. I can try to reseat the RAM and run a ram checker test?

Asus Crosshair X870e
64GB (4x16GB) Kingston Fury 6000 MT/s
Ryzen 7 9800x3d

Any advice much appreciated.

Have you tried disabling XMP / EXPO? Because 4 sticks of RAM can be problematic in that regard.
Was about to post the same thing.

If you want/need 64GB RAM either disable Expo or return them and get 2x32GB kit.

Does it work ok with only 2 sticks of RAM? (with EXPO enabled)

Thanks @Quartz and @freddie64 and @WARburton

It's my first build so learning new things everyday.

So I need to disable that from BIOS, right?

One reason I went for 64gb is because I didn't want to have any blank slots on my motherboard for aesthetic reasons... appreciate 32gb would be sufficient for gaming (I have a 5080).

You can get blank Corsair sticks, but you would need to swap your Kinstone RAM to match. Also, I think they only come with RGB.

Search for "VENGEANCE RGB DDR5 Light Enhancement Kit".

There's no need to replace the RAM if it works (which apparently it does?), it is just more likely to not work (especially "out of the box" with XMP/EXPO enabled).

Can you let us know how you fixed it? For anyone else that has the same problem.

not for ddr5
yes you can...corsair 100%, and as said, its the rgb version..both veangeance and titanium light enhancement kits available...fairly new though..weren't available when i first bought my ram. i had the kits for my ddr4 rig...kinda miss it in the ddr5...just looks a bit empty with just 2 sticks there

am assuming this is ok seeing as OCUK dont sell it.. and mods that say can't link, just give me a shout and I'll delete link....as said you can get the titanium kit also... going to get some for my bous, but just deciding what ram to get myself as gave mine to my son...my work pc was running over 80% use case with 32gb and can wfh a day now, so toying with just getting some 64gb rather than 32gb...Shave , i could have got 64gb 6000c30 titanium the other day for £195 equiv, but offer just gone....i like the look of titanium but new price ...not so much

edit..actually, check the place that distributed the fe cards...£31 there
