urgent help on 1st build!

Hey everyone, I just finished installing everything on my first build.

the problem is, I turn it on, the fans spin, leds are on, and after a few seconds, it shuts down. A few more seconds, and it tries to start again, and bam, shutdown.

any help would be greatly appreciated!

specs:
Antec 902 case
Gigabyte UD3 mobo
Intel i7 920 D0
Corsair 650w ATX PSU
BFG GTX 285

I disconnected HDD, optical drive, and took 2 sticks of ram out, so i was left with cpu, gfx, psu, and one stick of RAM. unfortunately there's no change =(

changing RAM around, same issue, i'll take the mobo outside the case.

CPU....power...connector? that's the cable coming off the heatsink right? the one you plug into CPU_Fan?

edit: nvr mind, i've connected that one too, with 2x 4 pins

tried moving graphics to primary slot, checked all connections.

the two lights on the gfx are both green, no probs there.

the 4 phase lights on the mobo are green, green, orange, and red. apparently though, these lights are just for how much the cpu is being used, so i can imagine it would be max at startup.

heatsink is installed fine, same as pics in the manual.

the fact that it starts up i think means power comes in...but something triggers a shutdown. then it starts again, and shutsdown again.

tried jumping pins, again no luck

reseated gfx and all three sticks of ram in the 4 slots, no change, back to 1 stick of ram.

@ plec, yes sir, held a screwdriver against the pins for 10 seconds, but no change

pretty sure im touching the correct pins, it says CMOS underneath, and they are the ones referred to on the manual.

put power back in...same old same old lol

trying to remove heatsink, it is almost impossible to remove it, will keep trying

after much work, muscle pumping and 2 cut fingers, i've manager to raise 1 pin.

just while im taking a break from painful extraction...what if i remove the heatsink to find no bent pins or anything. what would the next step then be?
