Urgent help - Text file deleted/missing

Hey guys, yesterday i had a text file on my desktop, i check today and it's gone. I was cleaning up my desktop earlier and i may have accidently highlighted it and sent it to the recycle bin which i later emptied. I've heard that stuff is never truly deleted off the HDD and i was wondering is there any program that can retrieve the file back some how?

what about a system restore, do you have a restore point that was made yesterday?
Maybe a tad extreme though.

I've just recently installed TF2 which is around 1.5GB or more. Would a system restore get rid of TF2?

How important is that textfile?

Can't you make a tiny partition for the program?

What is TF2, is it a game? AFAIK as long as what you installed was before you deleted the text file TF2 shouldn't be affected. BUT I've never done a succesful system restore (bad memory on old laptop I tried) but there will be plenty of threads and sites you can read.

Or if you know someone with ERD Commander 2005 try and use that. plenty of info about that on the net.
