URGENT - Taking Apart Old PC

I keep doing that, nothing is happening, I am guessing there is another release catch at the front of the case however I cannot get the front panel off as its just either stuck or not meant to come off.

And cloudstomp, I know but that part of the case refuses to come off whatever I do to it, including pulling the release catch.

!

Rivets are rivets. Not 'nice bolts'.

Move the catch and slide the panel toward the back of the case. The front will (probably) pop off if you pull it from the bottom.

Gex thank you for your patience, it did come off after a lot of "gentle persuasion". Sorry for being very moody just been spending hours attempting to get it off with no avail.

Also, thank you for telling me which direction to pull the panel off!

I did have to bring the hammer out to knock it slightly since it was jammed so hard!
And the amount of dust in there!...

ATA is the old Parallel version, you can use them on SATA board but need a converter which will cost about a tenner, and they will be slower than SATA by a fair bit.

Is that a... PCI modem!!! those were the days :p I have a PC next to me with an old AMD chip, and I was surprised to see SATA ports on the motherboard tbh

I actually salvaged a few things I could find useful :P

Fans
Covers
Wires
Screws ;)
Network adapter
And it was a 160GB HDD so i took that as well

Almost did the graphics card but thought it pointless.

EDIT: Gotta love 230W PSU :D

might i ask what the salvaged parts will be used for? only ask as i used to do silly thiigs like this, strip old knackered pc's to bits and think to myself 'oh i'll hang on to those they might be useful' wasn't long filling a couple of drawers full of utter garbage!!!

Currently they wont be used for anything but soon I will me making a budget PC and its nice to save money in some places to accommodate others.

The fans are 80mm case fans which should be a nice add on if needed.
I dont know what socket the wires are but they might be useful.
Also prefer having more screws than necessary
Network adapter in case I need multiple connection cables (you would be surprised)
HDD might be re-usable or donatable.

i'll bet you though that you still end up with most of it sat in a drawer!! :p

i dismantled a friends old pc last friday, ended up taking the heatsink off one of the old cards and using thermal adhesive to stick it to a controller chip in one of those external sata->usb things because the internal controller was overheating

works a lot better now :)

Are you sure that that is a network adaptor though as it looks a lot more like a PCI Modem (especially as (a) this is a generic Dell box with an on board network port so they probably would not have an extra card for networking too and (b) the apparent form of the card in e shot of it in place) ?
