The US Open kicks off today and Kyle Edmund is currently beating the 13th seed Richard Gasquet 6-2, 6-2.

Djokovic starts the tournament as the favourite in the men's draw and Serena in the women's.

Hoping for another good tournament for Murray although he's had so little time off over the last few months I wouldn't be surprised to see an early exit :(

Edit: Edmund wins 6-2, 6-2, 6-3

It sounds as if Gasquet was way off his game but it's still a great result for Edmund. Hopefully he can build on this and improve his consistency too.

Djokovic did win as well but he has been struggling a bit with injury and took four sets in his match.

Good to see Jo Konta go through with a comfortable win, maybe top ten before the year is out?

Heather Watson not doing so well against Hogenkamp. Lost the first set 2-6 and she seems to have had medical time out for something that was causing her pain.

Pleased for Johanna. Hopefully she can continue onwards and upwards.

A good result for Dan Evans to beat Rajeev Ram in four sets.

Based on the text commentary the Robson vs Broady match seems like quite an tight game at the moment but at least it means that we're guaranteed another Brit through in the ladies as well.

Edmund through in straight sets again. This time 7-5, 6-4, 6-4 against Ernesto Escobedo. He'll now play Isner or Steve Darcis.

Djokovic had a walkover after his opponent pulled out through injury. That'll no doubt help Djokovic if the stories about his wrist are true.

Good result for Edmund there, hopefully he can keep that sort of run up although in some ways it might be beneficial for him to have a match or two where it goes to five sets and he gets through.

Konta seems to be playing well in the first set against Pironkova, she's just taken it 6-2.

Bit of a pity that Djokovic's opponent is injured - I'm slightly surprised they didn't have a lucky loser as an alternate instead or do they not do that here?

//edit Konta through 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 with a medical timeout at the end of the second set which didn't sound so good.

Good result for Dan Evans vs Alexander Zverev too to win in four sets. Stan Wawrinka up next though.

A really good performance by Jo Konta vs Belinda Bencic to win 6-2, 6-1.

//edit and Kyle Edmund beats John Isner in four sets too, next up is Djokovic so hopefully he gives him a decent game since the world number 1 has got pretty lucky with his route so far.

Evans had a match point vs Wawrinka and lost, incredible effort . Hope he really pushes on from here.

Definitely, as Wawrinka said he was a bit lucky to get through. Hopefully Evans will be able to build on his form and be challenging top 10 players on a regular basis.

I'm hoping that last night was Murray's lapse of concentration/bad couple of sets and that he gets his game a bit more on song again. At least he made it through though which is the most important thing.

Still three Brits into the last 16 of their respective competitions is pretty good going. It doesn't seem so long ago the question was asked what would happen if Murray wasn't around - we don't have the strength in depth of some nations but I'm hopeful that this shows we are moving in the right direction.

Didn't realise Del Potro dispatched Ferrer so easily, really fancy him to make the final which of course would mean beating Murray which I think he can do this time.

Not sure if it'll be against Djokovic or Nadal though. Nadal's looking like he's getting back to his best but Djokovic hasn't had much game time so there are big question marks he'll need to answer tonight.

Edit: Konta out in 2 sets. Her serve needs to improve massively or she'll never amount to anything sadly.

Her first serve was improving rapidly, she was getting 85% in on first and winning a very high percentage, not sure what happened there. Del Potro's looking back to his best, he'll be a big player again I think.

I really fancy Pouille to beat Nadal. He's going to be a star ib the future.

Murray completely demolished Dimitrov in under two hours.

Djok was lucky he has been pretty untested so far with his current arm injury, not sure any others can live with Murray in his current form (his serve was consistantly in the 130's -140's also)

Nadal back to his best........the opposite, Nadal is fighting it (as he should) but he is only going one way from here - and its not up

This is where it starts getting really interesting

cant believe Djokovic gets yet another injury retiirment to get to the semi-final

That must be nearly 5 hours + less on court than anyone else
