I don't really understand the argument that prices go up because of tariffs. If companies thought the market would tolerate those high prices, then they'd be priced that way even if tariffs weren't a thing, surely?

The tariffs are paid by the importers, not the manufacturers. Who then pass the cost on to distributors...who then pass the cost on to retailers...who then pass the cost on to customers.

I feel sorry for most Americans. Guess they got what they voted for. And as for all these jobs coming back to the US.......won't happen. They'll just move them to countries where wages are low and people don't mind working stupid long hours and there are few or weak labour laws. The latter might be true for the US but the wages, nope. Will probably be difficult getting that calibre of American to work those long hours, too, methinks.

You're not far off actually but it's not even employment - it's just national pride of Chinese population that turns them often into willing propagandists, for free. There's millions of them.

Last I heard, they were employing MILLIONs to scour the internet and spread propaganda. As well as carry out government backed hacking.

If the US is going to tariff the crap out of it. Maybe it will mean cheaper prices here as they try to recoup lost business
