In your heart
Well, in the next few months ill have a lot of time to burn, so i came up with the idea of a USA holiday.

Firstly i havnt ever been to the usa in my life, so what should i expect?

Also, i will want to do a little amount of work over there to get some extra money. Will i need any kind of work permit?

Can't help much hear but I hear you can kill two birds with one stone when it comes to money and travel by delivering cars. If you have a driving license you can drive them cross state/country, stopping on your way. There are agencies here and in the US who can arrange it, but I couldn't tell you who.

I've not been to the USA for a while, but I remember having loads of fun there (Disneyland111oneone *** :)).

Btw, make sure you know about things they charge you for. I managed to add $150 or so to my parents hotel bill because they charged us for playing on the games console in the room.

For working in the States, check out this site:

As for going to America - well I can only say "do it". I quite like it over there, but I couldn't live there. My fav places there are San Fran and NY. All the other places weren't so interesting. I also find the coastal areas a lot more cosmopolitan and a bit more "open minded" and less brain washed. Still the yanks are in general really friendly people, and I've always had a nice time there and always made to feel welcome.

I'll echo what Freefaller said - go to the States!

I go on average 5 times a year (usually 2-3 times on business, 2-3 times on holiday), infact I'm going in a few weeks.

My favourite place is definately New York City, can't get enough of the place. If you go to the US and end up somewhere you don't like (LA for example - ewww) then don't write off the rest of the country, it is a big place the it varies a lot depending where you go.

Im really enthusiastic about it, and im looking forward to going.

I would love to live there too, thats another reason why i want to visit, before i make any descision.

I can't say that I'd like to live in the US, well, with the possible exception of NYC. I love going on holiday to the US (I like less going there on business, but that's another story) but I can't see me ever living there.

I can't really explain it, it's just how I feel. Maybe that's because I've not been to the right place yet but so far, nowhere except NYC has appealed to me on that level.

Same here. Though San Fran was quite nice too... Cali in general is pretty cool and echoes my way of life a little, but still don't think I could live there. It's too different, yet spending so much time in Europe I could happily live in the Med somewhere - but despite the US being a fantastic to be , I don't think I'd want to spend the rest of my life there... Saying that I would give it a go.

San Francisco isn't a place I'm all that keen on, probably because of some ex-girlfriend related 'fun' but even when we were together I didn't see what all the fuss was about SF. Apart from Napa of course.

PS - Like the sig :)

I quite like the 'bay. :) But NY does rock in every way. Actually it's changed a lot (for the better IMO) since 9/11 - and I don't mean that in a disrespsectful way at all.

Sig is pretty tacky really :p

I know what you mean, NYC did change a lot. It was almost like going there for the first time when I went back after 9/11.

Depends entirely where you go. The US is a fantastic place, dont listen to the anti-American bandwagon that seems to be rolling around.

I've lived in Connecticut, visited many, many of the States and been back for numerous holidays. I most recently went to LA with the Uni and would give anything to go back and chill out around Santa Monica for a couple of weeks. One thing you can expect is that everyone will be 10x friendlier than your average Briton. Dont make the mistake of thinking every Yank is crazy because theyre not frightened to come up and talk to a total stranger (like my mate in LA, he got very scared, lol :p)

Yes, you will. Also, most visitors to the US from the UK go under the Visa Waiver Program (VWP), but that has quite onerous restrictions on it, not least that the maximum valid duration of visit is 90 days, and that the trip is for business or pleasure .... and that does not include working to raise money. So you need a full-blown visa that permits temporary working. This is certainly possible, but not easy.

If you want to see the laid-back version of life in the US, come visit where I live. NOTHING, I repeat, nothing is stressed over around here.

But to someone that's been used to living in something resembling a large city, this place can be rather frustrating. Nothing happens today. It's all "We'll get to it tomorrow. Or the next day....."

Total "no worries, mate" culture.

But, after saying that, if you like your nightlife, you REALLY don't want to come anywhere NEAR here!! LOL

This place literally rolls up the sidewalks and turns out the llights at 9PM!! ;)

America sounds great :D and they love us english so thats even better.

I absolutely cant wait. Also im prepared to visit anywhere there. Its a big place, so ill find something to do.

I was also wondering, what reception should i expect being one of those mixed race, half black half white fellows :p ?
