Should i expect much racism in the USA?
As I suspect is the same with anywhere in the world, it depends where you go. I haven't noticed any racism when i've been there, though.

The only time I saw Americans in a bad light was in Cancun where you really saw the American Chavs en masse around the pools/resorts with pina coladas in their hands, a fag in the other, and an awful manner towards the Mexicans. But that was only a few, ie the scumbags, and definitely no higher a proportion than the Average Scumbag on a bus in Bristol :p

I've not been to the USA for a while, but I remember having loads of fun there (Disneyland111oneone *** :)).

Btw, make sure you know about things they charge you for. I managed to add $150 or so to my parents hotel bill because they charged us for playing on the games console in the room.

That's one lesson learnt.

Never ever use anything in a hotel. Ever.

Luckily I haven't learnt the hard way.

So you don't want to go to the US because you've seen some gangster movies and your aunt doesn't like working with black people? Narrow mindedness seems to be a family trait.

Sounds like london :D Although it doesn't affect my quality of life, some days it can be like you're walking around Nigeria.

I'd love to go the US one day :)

I was also wondering, what reception should i expect being one of those mixed race, half black half white fellows :p ?
I suspect that may somewhat depend where you go. My experience is that nobody pays much attention to race, at least, not outside of inner city 'conclaves', and perhaps a few southern small-town redneck retreats. Then again, I'm white, so maybe I wouldn't experience the problems if there are any.

There are still some places that have a very bad reputation, but I couldn't tell you from personal experence how much it's hyped. There's certainly parts of South Central LA that I wouldn't spend much (any) time in, for instance. Though, some people did tell me I was taking a big chance with a part of the Cuban sector of Miami when I stayed there for a couple of days about 25 years ago. Despite the dire warnings, I felt nothing tense in the atmosphere and found the people delightful. So, was it all just hype in the warning, or was I lucky .... or naive? Dunno.

I think racism is slightly worse in the US than over here. It may not be visible in the 'touristy' areas or inner cities though. When i visited old friends in CT we were driving around the town and the woman we were staying with (who's black) commented on a police car that had pulled over some Hispanic gardeners. She said it happens daily, even though theyre entirely legit. She went off on a rant about how she's been pulled over a couple of times for no real reason - and also how the kids have had things said at school. This is in a nice quiet town in New England. :(

Having said that I'm entirely sure it wouldnt be a problem on your visit! As has already been said, cities are very diverse.

I have never ever had any racism issues towards me, even when travelling on my French passport. Maybe it's the way I come across to people, or the areas I've been to - but they've always been very welcoming, friendly and helpful. However inter-American racism may be more of a problem.

Don't listen to stereotypes and sweeping generalisation, you've got to go there to experience it yourself. Like all travel and new cultures it's not for everyone, but I for one do enjoy the States a lot - bear in mind that I spend my life travelling and seeing a lot of countries/cultures/people. :)

I was not really a fan of the Americans, or America.

Then I visited. Seriously, what a fantastic country. Everyone should go, put their stereotypes to one side, and experience what it's really like. Completely changed my opinions.

I havnt experienced racism on holiday ever in my life.

I try my best to speak the local language and do things the way the locals do.

Im sure i wont experience any in the usa, but ill find out for myself
