usb drive format

yep tried to clear the "read only" in the command prompt but it says "error this function not available on removable drives" ..
I then tried to find the device policies but cannot find them in windows 7 64 bit .. there is a "device" and "policies" but neither has reference to drives ..

haha I've even had my reading glasses out in the sunshine to see if Ican locate a switch. Even resorted to asking the wife if she could see anything  that's how crazy it's sent me :D

i've just found a config for enabling usb drives in windows 7 under gpedit.msc. .... I've just disabled the USB constraints and am about to try to format again .. will report back in 10 ..

ok managed to get a restore on the stick using Patriots own utility. Cannot write to the stick so re-tried to format it. Format failed was the error. Again ..

ok ... just tried another formatting with Patriots utility and it looks like it is formatting ?? I have actually got a green status bar starting on the app. How long should it take to complete a format on an 8gb stick? ..

If you're doing a full format it might take a while.

Just let it get on with it as long as the status bar is showing progress.

My replies will be slow today.

I'm trying to tile two fireplaces and finish off a kitchen floor.

your doing more than me ... still no go .. the format didn't say it had finished but had returned to the "what do you want to do" position. I tried to access the stick but it comes up "need to format" ... so nope no progress .. looks like a return to shop job ..

:(

You could give this a go:

RMPrepUSB

Never used it so you'll have to have a play around.

You'll need to set the partition as non-bootable for a data drive.

Try all your different USB ports, USB 2.0, USB 3.0, whatever you have.

It's :

1) Something so simple and we can't see it

2) Something so complicated we can't see it

3) The drives are stuffed

It really should be plug 'n' play so I vote no. 3 and suggest you RMA them.
