After trying to use a kvm between my monitor and 2 pcs and failing (text all blurry) I wonder if there's another route open to me. I can already switch between pcs on my monitor (one plugged in d-sub, the other in dvi). My keyboard and mouse are both usb. Is there a usb splitter available so that I could plug my mouse/keyboard into it and then plug it into 2 pcs?

If your screen is blurry when you switch with a KVM check that both graphics cards are set to the same res and refresh rate etc.

I have seen some sort of usb splitter years ago so they do/have exsisted

You can get switching USB hubs - a 4 port USB hub which has inpits for 2 PCs so both can access the devices plugged into the hub, I think it's then controlled by a push-button type switch but not sure. Only seen them in a highstreet competitor though.

That's what I've tried, the pcs work but the text is all blurry and gives me a headache to read! Might have to try another kvm.

Just use the K and M (USB) part ot the KVM (Keyboard and Mouse) and as you said plug each PC into a different input on the Monitor!... Just switch both over when needed!...

Might get a bit confudging if you have the monitor set to the wrong input but its easily sorted! *Click* 'Ooo Theres me window!' :D
