USB V Firewire

I am thinking of getting an Ext Hard Drive Enclosure and was wondering if USBII is faster than Firewire? I have an IDE Hard Drive and was thinking of getting an IcyBox Enclosure. Not sure if i should go for one with Firewire or not?
