Two lane 40MPH road approaching a small island where you can turn left, got straight on or turn right.

Left lane is marked for a left turn or to go straight on. Right lane is for right turn only.

If you want to go straight on you're obvisouly in the left lane and not indicating until you exit. However the reason for asking is that every day I have to go over this island and almost every day people from the left try to pull out on me. Usually resulting in them gesturing that I should be indicating my intention to go straight on.

How can so many people not understand basic road markings and protocol. I've used this road for almost 6 years and most days get some idiot waving their arms at me like I've killed their first born.

if this happens all the time you should indicate!

So your advice is to ignore the highway code?

I'm not turning left or right.

Taken from the safe motoring website:

To Go Straight On (leaving at the second exit)
Choose the appropriate lane on approach to and on the roundabout. If you can't see the markings on the road then it is usually the safest option to keep in the left lane.
Stay in this lane until you are getting ready to exit the roundabout
Indicate left after you have passed the exit before the one you want.

google maps needed

They've just redone the road and not put the lane markings on but if you look at the other side that's how they are.

You can't indicate you're going straight on, if you indicate left people will think you're taking the exit they're waiting to come out from?

well if you put your hazards on then that is indicating both left and right at the same time thus cancelling each other out so you are indicating for straight on :)

haha I'd go for that option just to take the mick or flick a finger back at them for being numptys and not understanding how to drive.

It's got to the point where I actually start to bet on if the person will wave at me or not. It's rubbish though as it's not like I can stop and tell them how wrong they are.

Have a similar issue near me, except its 3 lane. Would be interesting to hear peoples thoughts on it, so will grab a map post it later.

Odd, I've never experienced this. Most people seem to know to give way to traffic already on the roundabout, indicating or not.

My only answer as to why they're so confused is by the number of people who turn left and by the angle of the island. However this doesn't alter the road layout or the right way to use the island.

Happens me day and daily in a similar situation. Also get a lot of people using the right hand lane to go straight on and then cutting me up or having to brake sharply and pull back in behind me as they realise they are exiting at the same point as me. Cue horn blaring and gesturing from them and rolleyes from me!

That's my next thread lol

I suggest you increase your horsepower and enter the roundabout faster.

Sadly not an option as I have to use the company Mondeo most days.
