Used Titan X Pascal sent from Nvidia, be aware

I have been eager to purchase a single top end graphics card for some time, so not to have to run quad, tri and SLI setups (that I have in the past).

Currently running 980ti sli (EVGA), I opted to spend my cash on a new titan x (pascal).

Only available from Nvidia and costing a lot of money, I was happy to part with my cash. I was expecting a great product and service, it was not.

Item was delivered quick, next day from Ireland, I am in the UK.
It was in a cardboard box had no bubble rap or protective packaging.
The item had been previously opened, marks and stains on the box.
On opening, the static packaging had been clearly opened and stuck back down.
On opening the item, it had been clearly used before! Not just for a short time, as a build of dust in the fan can be seen!
It was dirty and no protective plastic on any part (as my friends had)
Even a dvi screw was loose and rattling around inside!
Pictures are below showing all of this.

I am shocked that for the price (£1100, 1300Euro, $1200) that the item is not better presented.
I am shocked that this was even allowed to be dispatched to a customer purchasing a new item. Either poor systems, poor quality control or a dodgy employee!

I called Nvidia, American recorded voice, Asian customer support with poor English. I explained everything and asked for a replacement, but told I can have a refund on sending it back. I’d receive an email explaining how to send back, still waiting 2 days later for the email!

Well it messed up the weekend I had planned to do a new build with the card. A refund is great, but If I purchase it again, will this happen again. How about other cards?
This has reduced my opinion of Nvidia, a massive company making a huge turnover and failing to satisfy high paying customers.

I hope it will get sorted, but it just isn’t on for the money we are handing over. 3rd party sellers you do a much better job, shame you can’t sell the Titan X.

Has anyone experienced this, or could help in any way would be much appreciated.

I'd return it and get another one. Maybe you just got extra unlucky and got like refurbished one ? I do get the frustration, but also bearing in mind because the tx just comes in from nvidia there is so much handling happening in one company there can be mistakes.

How is that unlucky? I'd call that totally unacceptable. There shouldn't be a case where you spend that kind of money on something and receive a USED product. And they didn't offer you anything in return for your troubles. That's some ****** cs right there.

yeah...it happens. Just keep on at them for those return details and get it returned.

Did it stop you building the rest of the PC?

BWAHAHA yeah, never happens with OcUK ;)

I wouldn't be happy either.
I'd file a complaint to NVidia, written not verbal. It's the only way to raise visibility of the issue and to potentially help them improve. They're fairly new to this "selling cards direct to end customer" malarkey. Not defending them though, but filing complaints is a way to get a company to investigate what's happened and how they can improve + you may get a discount or freebie out of it too. If you don't complain then you can return your card, you'll get a refund and the circle will likely continue with other customers.

Someone said you were "unlucky" and I get why they're saying that. People tend to publish bad experiences on the net more often than good experiences and as you're the first I've read about, it could be down to being just an unlucky one. Still no excuse though as it shouldn't have happened

Unfortunately people abuse the return system at most retail outlets and it's quite possible this is a card that was returned as unwanted and then put back into circulation, I imagine people such as reviewers order cards (not just reviewers, You'd recognise people here that abuse the system if you looked, I know of one), use it and then return it within the deadline as unwanted, It may sound like a good way to play the system but it's not for the person who then gets a card that someone has quite possibly ragged the arse off for a weekend seeing how well it overclocks etc looking to cherry pick himself a card or do a review. Companies need to protect themselves and us from people like this with some sort of international repeat offenders watchlist they can all access and act on.

Return it and get a new one. Bad service from NVIDIA, but most likely some employee making a mistake and putting it back into the brand new pile, as opposed to the B-grade pile etc.

Don't be so sure of that, I got what was meant to be a brand new 290X Matrix from OCUK that turned out to be used, Lots of dust in the fans and heatfins, Finger prints all over the card etc...

Shocking really. I understand mistakes happen but when you spend that amount of money you should be receiving A+ service.

I hope it gets sorted sooner rather than later. Do keep us updated though.

Do you still have the two 980ti? If so, get your refund for the Titan and consider it a lucky escape. If you're going to drop £1k+ then at least get yourself an upgrade.

I would never buy anything direct from Nvidia. Given their pricing policy, driver attempts and track record (GTX 970, VRAM, class action lawsuit) your experience doesn't surprise me at all. They aren't exactly consumer orientated.

There was someone in here week or so ago had ordered about 4 or 5 1080's and was asking which one to keep, it's pathetic tbh.

Surely they can send another and pickup the one from you at the same time.

Advance rma is the least they should be doing.

Poor show that's what Nvidia's putting out to customers-no excuses./

nvidias customer service is pretty crappy in my experience.

lots of issues with the shield tablet and they were giving hardly any information anywhere for wtf was going on until they announced a mass recall.

so yea much better off buying their products from aftermarket providers..!

The mistake here is really that it hadn't been checked/cleaned up before sending out again.cards sent back under dsr do not have to be sold as a b-grade. Blame those who abuse dsr -plenty if em here we are aware of in sure

It doesn't matter if it cost £11 or £1100, you paid for new and didn't get new and that is wrong. I would keep on with the exchange/refund personally.

If we want to live in a society where we have 14 days to return a product bought at a distance for any reason, then we need to accept we live in a society where we run the risk of receiving someone else's return. Saying people "abuse" the system is subjective, and there's no clear evidence of that in this case.

Personally, I have returned items in the past (GPU due to coil whine etc) and I've also received items that I suspect have been previous returns as they are opened, but as the items have been functioning perfectly I've seen no reason to send them back.

What do people expect?
