Usenet Servers

In that case i would try disabling the server in your client for a minute and going and registering for a free usenetbucket account (if you register with facebook you get 20GB free for 7 days) and do the same thing use the 50 connections but also use SSL, usenetbucket allows it on their test account and just compare your speed between the two. It should let you know if its a problem with your current provider or if its something with your connection.

Also a general rule about the connections once you have it maxing your connection speed you should reduce them until you are using the minimum amount needed to max it + maybe 1 or 2 extra. This is because they increase overheads and its generally a waste.

Have just tried that and now it is reaching speeds of 19Mbs, using 50 connections, port 443 and SSL, so it is probably something wrong on my end?

is sabnzbd showing 19MB/s in its speed status? if so that's maxing your connection its 152mbit sab switches to showing it as MB/s once it goes over 1MB/s.

If you where downloading at 19mbit it would only be showing 2.3MB/s

I have reached my download limit for today :p but yeah, in the speed box it shows 19.1MB/s.

Your getting your max then :)

Its just showing it as MegaBytes/s rather than Megabits/s.

For example my 76mbit connection shows 8.5MB/s when using sab :)

Damn download limits :P

About tweaknews you should be aware they got bought lately by highwinds and now pull all the content from the same servers as easynews / newsdeamon.

As for your question about indexer's (searchers) i would refrain from talking about them in the thread as that's where it starts to go into dodgy territory and the mod's will most likely remove the thread.

Tweaknews for myself, have a link in the email from my trial many years ago for cheap block rate which still works when I need to renew :) don't download a great amount of stuff so lasts for ages...

Does the free virgin one carry everything that tweaknews does I.e all Linux distos albeit 30 day retention

Yup, moved away from tweaknews because of this, switched to Cheapnews, heard good things about Newsoo as well :)

using 50 connections

Any reason why you're using 50 connections?

50 connections doesn't simply equal faster throughput than 7 or 8 connections because there are other factors to consider such as part size. It just means you've got 40 more lanes open over the same throughput. I can max out my 160Mb virgin connection with only 8 connections.

Having 50 connections open all the time is usually unnecessarily unless you actually know why you want 40 extra data lanes open.

If you're downloading binaries with large parts, I find anything above 10 connections is pointless. If you're downloading loads of small items like text or images then more connections can sometimes be useful.

tweaknews is what I use. Never had anything missing (when things have been removed from other providers).

Retention isn't as great as they advertise though. I'd say it's more like 800 days.

No reason other than it's what was advertised, so i thought i would just use the 50.

I have used up 50GB of my block account, so i'm looking for a new provider, who's best?

Newsdemon here, £6.34 a month unlimited.

Think I'm on an old tariff that's not been updated. Not complaining! I think their billing systems are a bit funny as I accidentally cancelled the recurring payment once and they kept me connected for 3 months.

Hmm, just set it up, says i'm going at 1KB/s which is the equivalent to what?

And now i keep getting download failed, even though they are 2 days old :/
