Usenet Servers

Newsdemon = Highwinds. At the moment they're really aggressive with takedowns, hence all the bad user comments recently about them.

Yeh its most likely the file

Providers differ on how quickly they act on copyright complaint's some like highwinds are known for taking it down as soon as they get a report while others wait a while.

Generally people run with more than 1 provider they might have their main provider with highwinds and then have a block account or a cheap up to 10mbit account with another provider (looking at the map i linked you) so that they can get the file usually from one with the other filling in the blanks.

Ah ok, so it's not the connection then, it's the file?

Yes and no, each usenet server will effectively hold a copy of the file. When the usenet provider received a DCMA request to takedown the file (removing it from there servers), it will fail to download - but other usenet providers might still be hosting the file.

At the moment Highwinds are reacting very quickly to DCMA requests and thus taking down files within a few hours of them being posted. Other providers (mainly those outside the US) will take longer to remove the files, this is way many people at the moment are saying to avoid Highwinds based resellers.
I'd recommend reading through (or posting on) the usenet subreddit, as we're bordering on the limits of what we're allowed to talk about here I think.

Ive been using Newshosting for years, great retention, unlimited, can't fault them, and i just use the free AltBinz client, which i also can't fault.

Usenetnow is my provider, £7.25 a month with 50 connections, SSL, servers in EU and USA. Max out my fibre connection 8.9 MB/s and I have pulled files from 4 years ago with no need for par files.

I use a combination of the NL based usenetbucket and tweaknews.eu as a backup/fill server. Cannot complain at all, maxes out my fibre and between the 2 I have near 100% completion for almost 1000 days...

I can't keep on top of who runs who.

Does anyone know who xsusenet are on these days? At the moment they seem ok, when I first went with them, they were apparently a reseller of tweaknews or some places had them listed as Cambrium Usenet Services.

So not sure who they will be with now. If they have jumped to highwinds as well, then off to new provider I guess.
