Hi all..bit confused atm..aint bought my new tv yet but have purchased 1 of the new 360's with hdmi...howewver i also own a logitech z5400 5.1 set up with optical ..so if i were to buy a standard hdmi lead then there would be no optical attachment thingy that comes with the standard 360 connection...so should i therefore be looking at buying a tv with an optical connection on it....any help appreciated;)

If you want the sound to come from your Logitech then you just need the official HDMI cable (I think that has a breakout adaptor/cable for TOSlink).

looks like:

I think you can also get this adaptor if you have the official VGA cable and the Component cable it has that port on it, so you can plug that into the multi AV/OUT port and use that for sounds and use the HDMI for your TV connection.

Edit: You may have to change some stuff in the dashboard to set the sound to go over TOSlink and the video to go over HDMI.

I use my Xbox360 Premium in conjunction with the Z-5400's as well.
I also use MS VGA cable which also has the port for an optical cable.
In the system settings for the Xbox 360 under 'Audio' you will need to change it from 'Stereo digital' to 'Digital Audio 5:1'.
I would have thought an adapter for an optical output would be supplied with your 360?
I use HDMI with my PS3, digital 5:1 is plugged into the 2nd optical port on my Z-5400's and I had to change the settings on the PS3.
I presume the same has to be changed with an HDMI Xbox 360 for optical to work otherwise the audio will still be sent down the HDMI cable.

With elites there is a small dongle that allows phono and TOSLink outputs.

Buying a Pro for some reason they do not include this device and you must buy it seperately iirc

pic is correct though....

so it's a case of buying microsofts official hdmi cable with the added optical connection on it then or buying a tv with the optical connection...£40 for an hdmi cable is a little excesive

I just bought an additional component cable and broke the cover off. I now use HMDI for the picture and optical from the component cable for sound (going to my Pioneer HTP-GS1).

I use the a VGA cable which has optical out on it aswell, so my VGA is linked upto my Dell 2007WFP and my optical cables goes straight into my Logitech Z-5500 speakers.

Works perfect :)

Buy a cheap HDMI cable (fiver) and then get the component cable and use it's adaptor?

What cable did you actually get with your 360 (if it is the component cable then that has the adaptor you need).
