What do you people think about using a train ticket twice in one day ( i never get my ticket taken off me nowadays). I'm only talking about like a £2 train ticket, nothing expensive. What are your opinions on the morals of it? I see no problem, and i can name 2 times of really poor service ( and i use the train maybe once every 2 weeks), when if i could have been bothered to i could have got my ticket refunded (but im not that stingy)... It came up in conversation with my mum and she was shocked that i would "steal" a ticket, i wouldnt consider it honest, but we're overcharged as it is... Whats your opinion?....

I await for "general discussion has gone downhill" :p

To be fair if its only £2 a ticket i would just buy another one. Would do for any price ticket actually.

There's absolutely zero doubt all the 'I always do the right thing' brigade will be along promptly to tell you how notty you are! I say if you can get away with it, why not? I would...

It still would not be valid, usually it is valid for a period of xxxx minutes. Double check the T&C. Plus, does it not have the destination, and wouldn't they notice the fact you were heading in the wrog direction?

But that's why you have the forum name you do. :)

Personally? I would buy a new ticket each time but it's up to you. Go make your own mind up and if you get caught just take the punishment.

It was a return ticket to Birmingham (so i have 2 tickets), that i used this morning, the ticket says start date 16 july, valid until 16 july (although it is an off peak return). I'l be making the same journey to birmingham tonight, (though returning in a taxi), so same route on the "out" ticket..

- so im heading in the same direction and it says its valid for the whole day...

The advance guard has arrived. ;)

No wonder the fares are so high because filthy, cheating scum don't pay……blah, blah, blah. :p:D

The ticket is classed as "OFF-peak DAY Return" surely that "DAY" part, means its valid all day, just like a day saver on a bus?.. i cant find anything in T&Cs about multiple journeys, so its either so crazy they dont think about it, or not illegal..?..

A day return ticket is about one outbound and one inbound (return) trip. It's ONE TRIP, but return. Not multiple trips. The day bit means that the return has to take place within the same day as the outbound trip.

clearer now?

I would do it as well if you could get away with it.

Agree on the brigade coming along saying its completely wrong etc :p

An off peak DAY return is a return the same day.

Tickets are valid for one journey only - travelling on the same ticket again is, legally speaking, exactly the same as travelling with no ticket at all. The original ticket is invalid once you have completed the journey.

I would say the things to consider are:

1)Personal preservation aspect - Will I get caught / punished?

Looks unlikely so all good.

2)Moral aspect - Is what I'm doing against my or societies morals

Trains are overpriced for what is often a poor service. On the flip side is it fair that others pay for you to travel? Or as you say, has the train service provider delayed you sufficiently before, that you now feel you deserve a free ride?

I would probably do it. Trains are such a rip off in this country.

2)Moral aspect - Is what I'm doing against my or societies morals

Societies don't have morals, and in general masses of people don't have morals. Only individuals and small groups do.

Just though I'd point that out.
