Using a train ticket twice in one day..

I know at least one person who does this ... I can't say i agree with it but it's his choice (and his pain if he gets caught either doing this or not having a valid ticket ... especially since they have started penalty fares around here).

Some of my other friends are lucky as they get free rail travel due to their work contracts but I just have an annual season ticket so I don't have to worry about getting a ticket for my commute.

It's impossible to be caught though.

The ticket, providing it hasnt been written on or stamped is valid for a month.

If it hasn't been checked, it's still possible to use it (unless you're an angel).

I certainly wouldn't buy a new ticket if I already had one displaying exactly the same information as would be on the new one

Well that would depend entirely on the train operator.
All the ones I've ever used and used to commute on have the date printed on the return ticket, so it would be useless trying to use it up to a month later, not to mention it won't get you through ticket barriers.

I dont see why not, its their own fault. When i come home from uni i pre-book a ticket to leeds then jump on a train for the final stretch (only a few quid but poor student cant afford:D). If a guy comes along to check my ticket i'll buy one, if they dont then it's their loss.

got a new ticket in the end :P ... twas good that i did, since me and my mates ended up going to the station after the one i was expecting us to go to, and they had ticket-reading barriers, managed to pay for the extra bit of the journey, but had i have had my ticket from earlier on in that day, and he read the time (for some reason :p ) he might not have been so lenient

A train station without tickets?
Where on earth do you live?
20-25 minutes is way longer than I've seen people where I used to live who didn't pay just using it for one or two stops.

There's not one at my nearest station either :o

I was paying 35.00 return every weekend with a young persons railcard (53.00 without) and that was to purchase a small section of space crammed next to the toilets/exit doors.
Milk them dry.

If I got a ticket from, for example, Leigh to Benfleet, then found myself back in Leigh by whatever means, needing to get to Benfleet, I would use the ticket again. I would happily do this as many times as I needed to in a day with no moral issues.

If it'd work I'd do it, trains are overpriced and a fairly poor service around here. I've also been £20 fined for an HONEST mistake before, and I am still bitter.

(honest mistake was having a ticket to the wrong place which was much further away than where I went and more expensive - was coming from my girlfriend's house to work and was on autopilot)

£2 for a 20 minute train ride? Bargain!!

My season ticket is about £2500 per annum and I consider myself lucky if I even manage to get a seat :(

I thought about this the other day when I caught a train to Manchester. Inspector wasn't at all interested in checking tickets as the train was on the fritz (ended up in a siding in Macclesfield for 30 minutes) and thought 'hmm if I wanted to go out tonight then Manchester on the train for 'free' would be my first destination (one way ticket was £7.80 by the way)

Wrong.

Fares are so high because the train companies are greedy, scum sucking *********!

Wrong fares are so high as they are still trying to upgrade the line to something worthy of the current century

Well my rant with trains is the price of tickets and the times of peak/off peak.

Eastbourne to Brighton - 30min via train - before 9AM = £14.50 (Return)

Eastbourne to Brighton - 30min via train - after 9AM - £7.25 (Return)

Total scam

But its hard to use a tickets more than once now days due to the barriers at the other end of the lines in the south east

Train ticket prices down here seem to be very expensive and as Mp4 says there are far too many barriers and the ticket guys will often set up shop at stations without barriers and check tickets as you leave.
