Hi

As the title of this post suggests, I am building a gaming PC with the intention to use my TV and an xbox 360 controller.

The TV is a 42 Inch pansoonic LE42E6B, Full HD 1080P.

Has anyone done what I am suggesting? Was it an enjoyable experience for gaming and general PC use?

Thanks :)

P.S, It will be keyboard and mouse for shooters sat on my couch..

I used to use a 40" Renzo TV, had no problems, text was fine, gaming was fine, watching tv/movies was fine.

I really wish I had 3 of them instead of these 3 24" monitors. :(

You may need to adjust the sharpness to get text to look clear.

I've had this issue with TV's for years and so have others when using HDMI and the text/images looking blury/out of focus however VGA looks fine. When playing around with TV settings I lowered the sharpness to 1/0 and voila, working perfectly.

I have a gaming laptop just for that reason connected up to my Panasonic plasma 50" TV and use a wireless xbox controllers, it's great fun and great fun playing with friends and family because you can add 4 xbox controllers to it and play together on some games that allow it, Street Fighter IV is a great example of multi users playing at once. Also we play Guitar Hero games with the xbox guitars too and have a Xbox steering wheel too for racing games.

I was going to build a small gaming pc for the TV but decided not to because I have a main gaming rig in another room which is my main pc and thought time to update the laptop and use it next to the main TV and then I also have a new laptop too which I needed to update too, so killed two birds with one stone this way.

I've used my PC on a 40in LCD..t'was ok. Text was a bit blurry but games looked ok.

You may need to check your TV settings that it's set to 1 to 1 so each pixel is exactly displayed and make sure the graphics card on the pc is setup correctly too and outputting the correct refresh rate and 1 to 1, sometimes you do have to set scaling in the drivers to fill the whole screen but once done should look perfect, I don't get blurry text on a Panasonic 50" Plasma TV, or any of the LCD TV's I have tried my gaming laptop on, it's just a matter of setting it up right and using the TV's correct mode.

What TV and graphics card do you have ? We maybe able to help you sort it out.

Exactly it really kills consoles and you can do so much more on the computer too and turn it into a true multimedia device. I love my Gaming laptop connected to the TV to the point I have never moved it from there since setting it up. It's a much more social type of gaming and multimedia experience. I won't ever get rid of my main gaming rig in the other room, that's just a totally different beast and is really just for my enjoyment and not really a very sociable setup and I use it as the main pc, flight sim rig and work rig.

It might be worth checking out the input lag (see below). Also run the clear type tuner and screen calibration utility in Windows.

I use a Samsung B650 32" LCD with my PC and I'm blown away by how good everything looks now I've got everything just right. Photos look as good as on iPad retinas and Macbook Pro (imo) and text is great for browsing and typing.

Gaming of course looks great but your mileage may vary.

However, the dreaded input lag is there. It's only minor as I have it set to game mode but my stepson cannot play DOTA on it as he is used to a 2ms response and the TV is nowhere near that.

I'm used to it from the Xbox but I know what he means having been used to a good response rate before but I'm not coughing up for a new TV just for that.

Thanks. I only ever used it once with the TV for a bit of gaming and figured afterwards I probably should have to set up the TV properly to get the text looking crisp. The TV is an older Samsung. I never bothered with it again as I'm happier with the monitor I have.

Thanks for the offer of help though :)

TV's are fine, just make sure you edit the source/input to pc/dvi so it turns of the TV's processing.
Most Samsung or LG i've used let you.
